What kind of media institution may distribute your media product and
why?
Our media product is an action thriller opening sequence that includes
common conventions such as a chase scene between two lad roles. A
media institution is a business that produces, structures and regulates
their products such as films, magazines, radio channels etc. Examples of
well-known media institutions are 20th Century Fox, Universal Picture,
Warner Bros and Lions Gate.
Since our media product is displaying the action thriller genre, then the
media institution that would distribute our product must have experience
in marketing an action thriller film. This is so that it is able to market and
distribute it well but also so that the audience have a recognisable image
or logo that they can associate with action thriller films.
A media institution that I think could distribute
our product is Film4. This is because it is a wellknown British digital television channel that is
owned and operated by Channel Four Television
Corporation. I believe that this institution would
be a good distributor for our product because it
has distributed other films that fall under the
same genre such as Old Boy (2003) and Seven
(1995). The fact that film4 is a British institution
is beneficial as it would be able to portray the
British culture showcased in our product.
Another media institution that I think would be good as our distributor is
20th Century Fox which is an American film studio and one of the six major
American Film studios. I have chosen 20 th Century fox because hey have
successfully distributed wellknown action thriller films
such as Taken and Mr and
Mrs Smith. The film taken
was used as one of the films
we had researched to gain
inspiration
for
our
film
narrative. Although it is not
originally a British media
institution,
they
hold
franchises
across
many
countries and one being in
the UK. This therefore also allows us to believe that they will portray the
British culture well when marketing and distributing our product.
Film4 and 20th Century Fox are both very well-known media institutions
and have a logo that is particular to them so that anyone can recognise
and remember their name; because of this it is also important to have a
unique yet simple logo that is catchy and easy to remember.
