Case Preparation: Check all threaded holes and repair as needed.
Be sure to check dowel pinholes
Replace bushing in pump with bronze dimpled bushing and Loctite in place.
Direct clutch drum:
o Wide drum bushing
o 5 Clutches .090
o 5 Steels .080
o Pressure plate machined .085
o Set clutch clearance using .090 steels
o Clutch clearance .065
Forward:
o 5 Clutches
o 4 Steels .070
o Top pressure plate machined step .120
o Bottom plate machined flat .410
o Clutch clearance .025
Set intermediate gear train clearance to .025 Max. Set with top snap ring.
Snap-ring is selective. See fig1
Replace all bushings in over-drive section and Loctite.
Overrun clutch: 10 Clutches
o 9 Steels
o Reuse lower plate and replace top pressure plate with ATS pressure plate
Overdrive Clutch: 6 Clutches
o 6 Steels
o Pressure plate machined .105
Remove waved snap-ring. Install pressure plate with step side towards lower snap-ring.
Then add clutches and Steels starting with a clutch.
Before installing assembly, add snap-ring, check clutch clearance by first installing over drive
bearing, spacer and lay over-drive piston into over-drive housing. Check clearance between
piston and top steel. Clearance between .110- .120. Set clearance by changing bearing spacer.
Set total unit endplay to .020-. 035
o Clearance can be set by changing snap-ring on intermediate shaft.
o Snap-rings are selective. See fig.2
Before installing valve-body adjust all bands.
Rear Band: Torque to 42 in lbs. Back off 2 turns.
Intermediate: Torque to 42 in lbs. Back off 1 turns.
This is a good time to air-check the unit. See fig.3
Install ATS Shift Kit. See Fig.4
