they are extracted from earth.
Specific Objective: By the end of the lesson students will be able
1. Write the name, type and method of extraction of three minerals in 3 minutes and
2. Write the differences of metallic and non metallic minerals in the worksheet within 7
minutes.
Prior knowledge: understanding of different minerals.

The teacher will draw a
mountain on the board and
ask the following questions:
The students will
give different
answers.
3. Name some
materials that we
can get from earth?
Introduction
Topic: minerals and
energy resources
The teacher will introduce
the topic of minerals and
energy resources by writing
on the board.
The students will
look at the board
and listen.

Guided task
The teacher will show
different types of minerals.
She teacher will also keep
metallic and non metallic
minerals separately and ask
the following questions:

Explanation by the
teacher
The materials displayed are
called minerals.
Minerals are those
materials that occur
naturally in the earth. They
are obtained from
underground by different
methods. They are not
manmade but natural
materials.
Ore: ore is a rock which
contains the metal that can
be extracted out of it or
mined out. Such as iron

minerals separately
in two groups?

differences in these
minerals?

and answer the
questions.
The students will
answer the
questions asked.
Minerals are of two types
1. Metallic minerals: they
can be melted to make new
materials. For example
gold can be melted to make
jewellery.
They have shine
and luster.
When hit, they do
not break in to
pieces.
They are usually
hard.
2. Non-metallic minerals:
they do not make new
materials when melted. For
example salt cannot be

enlarged and the minerals
are extracted out.
