2 8 Unit Two Exam Review

1. The document contains examples of translations, reflections, rotations, and multiple transformations on geometric figures. 2. It also reviews triangle congruence statements including SSS, SAS, ASA, and AAS and explains that corresponding parts of congruent figures can be set equal. 3. Rigid motions are defined as transformations that preserve distances and angles, and examples show determining the images of points under given translations and reflections.

Unit 2 Review and Practice Exam

Translations

What is
the rule?

(x+7, y-6)

Rule is (x, y)

(x+5, y-4)
What is the
point for B?
-B(-2, 3)
(-2+5, 3-4)

*B(3, -1)

If figure GHI has coordinates G (5,4) H (8,2) and

I (-2,3) and a Translation maps G to G(-6, 7),
find the coordinates of H and I following the
same translation.
G: 5 -6 was -11 along x-axis
4
7 was +3 along y-axis
So rule is (x-11, y+3)
H: (8-11, 2+3) = (-3, 5)
I: (-2-11, 3+3) = (-13, 6)

If figure JKL has coordinates J (7,4) K (5,3) and L

(-4,8) and rule of (x,y) (x-6, y+3) is used, find
the coordinates of J K and L.
J: (7-6, 4+3) = (1, 7)
K: (5-6, 3+3) = (-1, 6)
L: (-4-6, 8+3) = (-10, 11)
What happens if we connect the corresponding
vertices?
The lines connecting the points will be parallel

Reflections

Reflections
What set of
reflections will
copy this figure
onto itself?
One option is:
X-axis, y-axis, y=x

What does a reflection look like?

What about those lines from A to the y-axis and A to

the y- axis? They are both 4 units long.
How far is B to the y-axis and B to the y- axis?
Both are 6 units from the y-axis.

Multiple Transformations
What
happened?
-Reflect over
x-axis
-Translate
(x+7, y-2)

Rotations

What rotation was used?

90 clockwise
