Mould Plate Dimensioning: The Cavity Plate Size

The document discusses guidelines for dimensioning mould plates for casting parts. It recommends taking at least 40mm of extra material around the part to allow for space between the part edges and the plate edges. Additional space is needed if the mould has conformal cooling channels or separate insert plates. The thickness of the plates is selected based on having at least 50mm of material under a 100x100mm area of the part. Supporting pillars may also be used instead of very thick plates. The dimensions must also accommodate any sliding cores, ejector mechanisms, or other components in the mould.
