LEARNING CONTRACT

PURPOSE AND SCOPE


This learning contract is an agreement that describes how an employee will accomplish his or
her professional development goal(s). This is a self-directed, individualized learning plan
created by the employee in partnership with his or her manager. This agreement allows an
employee to be actively involved in his or her own professional and career development.
PROCESS
Identify at least one goal that can be accomplished within the next six-to-twelve
months.
The goal(s) can be related to:
o Improving job skills related to your current role
Examples: Improving customer service skills, business writing skills,
clinical or call handling skills, etc.
o Career development
Examples: Non-management level employee gaining management skills,
service center employee working on presentation and training skills, etc.
The contract is created by you with support from your manager. You will determine
your learning objective(s), strategy, timeline and evidence of accomplishment. Your
manager will meet with you regularly to review your progress and evaluate your final
work based on the guidelines you developed in your contract.
