Non Linear Wave Shaping Clipping

This document describes an experiment to analyze the output and transfer characteristics of various diode clipper circuits. It provides the circuit diagrams, procedures to connect the circuits, apply input signals, record output voltages, and plot transfer characteristics. The aim is to observe the performance of different clipping circuits and how they clip parts of the waveform based on the applied reference voltage. Clipping circuits do not require energy storage and can be used as sine to square wave converters for low amplitude signals.

NON LINEAR WAVE SHAPING: CLIPPING

AIM:- To obtain the output and transfer characteristics of various diode clipper circuits.

APPARATUS:- CRO, Diode IN4007, Power Supply, Resistor, Bread Board, Connecting
Wires and DC Regulated Power Supply.
THEORY:-

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:The circuit diagrams are given for different configurations of clipper. Here R=4.7 Kohm
or 1 Kohm, Vr=+2V, -2V.

PROCEDURE:
1. Connect the circuit as per circuit diagram shown in Fig.1. Obtain a sine wave of
constant amplitude 8 V p-p from function generator and apply as input to the
circuit.
2. Observe the output and not down the amplitude at which clipping occurs.
3. Draw the observed output waveforms.
4. To obtain the transfer characteristics apply dc voltage at input terminals and vary
the voltage insteps of 1V up to the voltage level more than the reference voltage
and note down the corresponding voltages at the output.
5. Plot the transfer characteristics between output and input voltages.
6. Repeat the steps 1 to 5 for all other circuits.

OBSERVATIONS:Find the value of input and output voltage for all the circuits.

MODEL WAVEFORMS:-

Output Voltage

RESULT:Performance of different clipping circuits is observed and their transfer characteristics are
obtained. The clipping circuits clips off the some part of the waveform depend on the
applied reference voltage. Clipping circuits do not require energy storage elements these
circuits can also used as sine to square wave converter at low amplitude signals.
PRECAUTIONS:
1. Connections should be made carefully.
2. Verify the circuit before giving supply.
3. Take readings without any parallax error.
