Post Observation Document Dych 2

The intern observed a 10th grade social studies lesson that was very successful, with students demonstrating engagement and high-level content knowledge. Student work such as guided notes, reflection questions, and concept formation notes provided evidence that learning targets were achieved. Classroom procedures, student conduct, and the physical space contributed positively to learning. The intern followed the original lesson plan and was impressed with student engagement. To continue professional growth, the intern aims to improve grading skills and utilize online tools to track student work.

POST-OBSERVATION DOCUMENT

Intern: Mr. Trey Pippin

School: Apollo High School
Grade Level/Subject: 10th Grade
Observer: Mr. Bob Dych
Date of Conference: 1/28/15

Cycle: Cycle 2

For each of the following, reflect on the lesson that was observed using the following guiding
questions to focus your reflection: Complete the Post-Observation Document no later than two
days after each observed lesson and submit electronically to the appropriate committee
members.

In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the

students achieve the learning targets? How do you
know, and what will you do for those students who
did not?

Overall, the lesson was very successful.

Students were engaged in the content
and participated in class discussions.
They also demonstrated high level
content knowledge based on their ability
to connect concepts.
I am impressed with this class. They are
consistently well behaved and are easy
to engage in content.

In addition to the student work witnessed by the

observer, what other student work samples,
evidence or artifacts assisted you in making your
determination for question one?

To what extent did classroom procedures, student

conduct, and physical space contribute to or hinder
student learning?

Students completed guided notes as well

as reflection questions that
demonstrated their ability to grasp the
concepts that were discussed in class.
Additionally, students completed
concept formation notes in the days
following the observation that required
them to apply the concepts that they
had learned to primary sources.
Classroom procedures, student conduct,
and physical space all contributed to the
success of the lesson. Students are used
to the routine of the classroom and that
helps them know what they can expect.
Adding to that, students were on task,

Did you depart from your plan? If so, how and

why?
If you had an opportunity to teach this lesson again
to the same group of students, what would you do
differently, and why?

involved, and engaged in the lesson.

I did not depart from the plan that was
outlined in the original lesson plan.
I was impressed with the way my class
responded to this lesson. They seemed
to be engaged and involved in the
learning that was going on. I think the
students are starting to do more of the
"heavy lifting" in the classroom and that
is a positive thing.
They are fun to teach and seem to have
fun in this class as well.

What do you see as the next steps(s) in your

professional growth for addressing the needs you
have identified through personal reflection?

I still think I need to continue to develop

my ability to stay on top of grading and
maintaining accurate records. The task
of grading can be daunting sometimes. I
have started intigrating some of the
extra features in Infinite Campus in order
to notify students of missing work and
ways to make assignments.
Overall, I feel myself growing as an
educator and that is a good feeling. I feel
like I am getting better every day.
