DIVISIBILITY RULES

OF NUMBERS

CHRISTOPHER A. LOPEZ

DIVISIBLE BY 2
A number is divisible by 2
if the last digit is an even
number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8).
Examples: 128 8 is an even number
482 2 is an even number
690 0 is an even number

DIVISIBLE BY 3
A number is divisible by 3
if the sum of the digits is
divisible by 3.
Example: 381
3 + 8 + 1 = 12
12 3 = 4

DIVISIBLE BY 4
A number is divisible by 4
if the last 2 digits are
divisible by 4.
Example: 1312
(The last two digits is 12)
12 4 = 3

DIVISIBLE BY 5
A number is divisible by 4
if the last digit is 0 or 5.
Examples: 175
605
280
400
915
365

DIVISIBLE BY 6
A number is divisible by 4
if the number is divisible
by both 2 or 3.
Example: 114
The number is even
therefore it is divisible by 2
1+1+4=6
63=2

DIVISIBLE BY 8
A number is divisible by 4
if the last 3 digits are
divisible by 8.
Example: 109 816
(The last three digits is 816)
816 8 = 102

DIVISIBLE BY 9
A number is divisible by 4
if the sum of the digits is
divisible by 9.
Example: 1 629
1 + 6 + 2 + 9 = 18
18 9 = 2

DIVISIBLE BY 10
A number is divisible by 4
if the number ends in zero.
Example: 100
250
310
770
290
720

DIVISIBLE BY 11
A number is divisible by 4
if the sum of every second
digit and then subtract all
other
digits
and
the
answer is 0 or divisible by
Example: 1 364
11. (3 + 4) (1 + 6)
77=0
