2.2 Analysing Graph Motion Displacement - Time Graph

This document discusses how to analyze graphs of motion. A displacement-time graph shows velocity as its gradient, so a negative constant gradient means uniform motion in the opposite direction, an increasing gradient means increasing velocity, and zero gradient means zero velocity. A velocity-time graph shows acceleration as its gradient, so an increasing gradient means increasing acceleration, a decreasing gradient means decreasing acceleration, and a constant gradient means uniform acceleration or deceleration. The area under a velocity-time graph gives the object's displacement.

2 Analysing Graph Motion

Displacement - Time Graph

Gradient is negative and constant, hence velocity is uniform and in

opposite direction.

In a Displacement-Time Graph, the gradient of the graph is

equal to the velocity of motion.
Analysing Displacement - Time Graph
Gradient is increasing, hence velocity is increasing.

Gradient = 0, Hence, velocity = 0

Gradient is decreasing, hence velocity is decreasing.

Gradient is constant, hence, velocity is Uniform

Velocity - Time Graph

Increasing acceleration

The gradient of the velocity-time gradient gives a value of the changing

rate in velocity, which is the acceleration of the object.
The area below the velocity-time graph gives a value of the object's
displacement.
