. Overview
The LA76931 is an integrated circuit for a PAL/NTSC TV. It consists of two pieces of IC
chip in one package, using Multi-Chip-Package technology. One is a MCU and the other is a
single processor for a color TV. The chip is masked according to the software that is discovered by
our company. This software number is 56S8. It can be used in the TV from lower to higher classis.
The hardware characteristic of this CPU LC8637XX that is in LA76931 and the brief introduction
of the function that software has are shown below.

1-2. The software function

1. Voltage Synthesizer Control. 14 bits PWM. Full channel: VL/VHL/UHF.
2. Frequency Synthesizer Control. Channels preset in AMERICA: 181.
3. The examination function of EEPROM is realized when the TV set is switched on, the alarm
is happened if EEPROM has an error. If the new EEPROM is replaced, then the initialization
data is automatically written.
4. The setup items are realized according to the software, the data is stored in EEPROM.
Different functions can be realized according to different setup.
5. Color Systems: PAL PAL/M PAL/N NTSC3.58 NTSC4.43.
6. Sound System:4.5M 5.5M 6.0M 6.5M
7. BTSC function. (use LA72700 or TDA9850)
8. The MONO or stereo. The volume and balance are controlled by PWM. The stereo can be
controlled by LV1116. It has surround processing function and four audio modes.

4-1. 0~9

(remote key)

1). Function: Direct tuning by key. DVD control.

2). Inhibit mode:
POWER OFF mode.
AV mode
AUTO SEARCH mode.
BUS OPEN mode.
GAME mode.
CHILD LOCK mode.
3). Instruction:
At air condition: the digital key of 2~9 is used to select the 2~9 position number.
Pressing two digital keys to select the 10~69 position number. At cable condition, the
digital key of 1~9 is used to select the 1~9 position number. Pressing two digital keys to
select the 10~99 position number. First press the1-- key to enter 1-- state, then press
two digital keys to select the 100~125 position number. If the position number is out of
range, these keys are not acceptable.
Mute is activated in process of change. If BLK PROCESS in the adjustment menu11 is set
to 1, then the blank screen is displayed in this process.
After tuning process is normally finished, the last watching position number and newly set
current position number is written into EEPROM as REVIEW/LAST.
If the same position number is selected, then the process is executed again from the data of
EEPROM.
In PRESET menu, the digit 0~9 key and 1--key are used to change the current position
number.
In CLOCK menu, the digit 0~9 key and 1--key is used to set the bespoke position
number.
In AV state, the digit 0-9, 1--key are not acceptable, but the OSD of VIDEO is
displayed.
At LINE mode, the digit 0~7 key is used to adjust S-BRI R/G/B-BIA., but the 8/9/1-key is not acceptable.
At B/W BALANCE mode, the 0~7 key is used to select eight adjust items.
At ADJUST mode, the digit 0~9 key is used to adjust 0~9 items of current adjust menu.
The digit 0~9 key is also used in DVD mode. At DVD mode, the digit 0~9 key is used to
control DVD, the operation is showed at DVD instruction(6-8).

4) Instruction of PICTURE menu:
In the PICTURE menu, press PICTURE key to select circularly every option. And the
CH+/CH- key can be used to select the option. The option that has the cursor is the selected
option, and the OSD of this option is red, the others are cyan.
The VOL+/ VOL key is used to change the value, the current result is shown with OSD and
digital. Each value of option is divided into 100-steps. If value is MAX(100) step then more
up the VOL+ key is ignored. If value is MIN(0) step then more down the VOL- key is
ignored.
The option of CORING and Black Stretch can be set to ON or OFF.
The value is automatically written into EEPROM.
Exit automatically menu when any operation is not executed over ten seconds.

6) Instruction of AUDIO menu:

The stereo function is selected after the STEREO OPT. in the adjustment menu4 is set to
2 or 3. If the STEREO OPT. is set to 3, there arent the options of
TREBLE/BASS/MODE and SURROUND in the audio menu.
In the AUDIO menu, press AUDIO key to select circularly every option. And the CH+/CHkey can be used to select the option. The option that has the cursor is the selected option, and
the OSD of this option is red, the others are cyan.
The VOL+/ VOL key is used to change the value. Each value of option (except SURROUND)
is divided into 100-steps. If the value is 100 then more up the VOL+ key is ignored. If the
value is 0 then more down the VOL- key is ignored. .
There are the options of AUDIO and SURROUND if the LV1116 is selected. The audio
mode: MEMORY, NEWS, MUSIC and MOVIE. The surround mode: OFF and ON.
The value is automatically written into EEPROM.
The AUDIO menu automatically exits when any operation is not executed over ten seconds.

8) Instruction of OPTION menu:

In the OPTION menu, press OPTION key to select circularly every option. And the
CH+/CH- key is used to select up/down option. The option that has the cursor is the selected
option, and the OSD of this option is red, the others are cyan.
The VOL+/ VOL key is used to change the setup or to enter the next OSD.
There is the option of LANGUAGE in the menu when two languages OSD are selected in
the adjustment menu11.
When the BIO-CLOCK in the adjustment menu12 is set to 1, there is the option of
BIO-CLOCK in the menu.
When the LOTTERY in the adjustment menu12 is set to 1, there is the option of
LOTTERY in the menu.
When the CALENDAR is set to 1 in adjust menu12, there is the calendar option in the
menu. After the calendar is selected, the VOL+/VOL- key is used to display the calendar
OSD. After entering the calendar OSD, the CH+/ CH- key is used to change year, and the
VOL+/ VOL- key is used to change month. The result is automatically stored in the
EEPROM. The calendar is two hundred years that from 1900 to 2099. The calendar OSD is
not automatically exit, pressing the DISPLAY key to exit the OSD, or pressing other keys to
enter other OSD.
There is the game option in the menu when one of the
GAME-MONEY\GAME-CRAB\GAME\TETRIS is set to 1 in the adjust menu 12. When
one game is selected, the VOL+/- key is used to enter this GAME OSD. When two or three
games are selected, fist press the VOL+/- key to enter the second menu, then press the VOL+/-

key to enter the GAME OSD.

Rules of the corn game elucidation: The VOL+/- key is used to move left/right, the RECALL

10) Instruction of CLOCK menu:

In CLOCK menu, if the option of clock has not been set, the options
(TIME/ON-TIME/ALARM/BESPOKE TIME/POSITION) are yellow. If the option of
TIME has been set, the options that include the cursor shows are cyan.
The CH+/CH- key is used to select the option. The OSD of the option that is selected is red.
The other options can be set after the CLOCK has been set.
The VOL+/VOL- is used to change value. The VOL+ key is used to set MINUTE, and the
VOL- key is used to set HOUR. Every pressing the VOL+ key, the time increase 1 minute;
Pressing VOL- key once, the time increase 1 hour. If the VOL+/VOL- key is continuously
pressed over 500ms,then the time is increase 1 minute/hour every 160ms.
The cycle of hour is 24 hours, the cycle of minute is 60 minutes. When the hour is 23, then
this time setup is released by pressing the VOL- key. Pressing this key again then the time is
set from to 00:00.
The OFF-TIME is cleared when the power is set to POWER OFF.
The program is auto skip to the position number that has been set at POSITION TIME.
The program is auto skip to the position number that has been set at BESPOKE TIME.
There is a red clock at the right corner when the attention time will arrive. This clock

3.During service time, the LINE mode is used to adjust approximately the B/W balance.
a) At the B/W balance mode, press the MUTE key to enter the Line state; press the MUTE

state, the picture is automatically set to factory1 state, the output value of every
option is 0. When the LINE state turn into full screen state, the picture is

. The explanation of special function

6-1.Auto Search function when no program is stored at turn on the

TV
This function is used when SEARCH CHECK is set to 1. At turning on the TV, the no
program is detected in EEPROM, this auto search mode will be set.

6-2.The EEPROM check function at turning on the TV

Because the BUS data and the setup result of setting item are stored in the EEPROM, the TV
cant work when the EEPROM has been damaged. Therefore the machine can automatically detect
the EEPROM at turning on the TV. If the BUS or EEPROM contain error, the machine will read
the initial data after turning on the TV, and set the screen to blue, and the OSD of EEPROM
ERROR PLEASE CHECK is gleamed on the screen. At this time, any operation cant, the TV
need be shut off. When the EEPROM contain part damage, the machine may dont detect it.

6-3.The initial function of EEPROM

When turning on the TV, the CPU can check the EEPROM whether is the replaced new or
not. If the EEPROM is new, in order to assure the TV working, the CPU can automatically read
the initial data. The BUS of TV will work normally according the initial data at this time, and the
BUS data hasnt been written into the EEPROM. At factory mode, after some adjustment data
must be adjusted, the BUS data can be written into the EEPROM. If the operation isnt right, the
TV will always work in the initial state at switch on.

6-4.The function of normal remote control unit realizing the

factory
The operation method is shown below:
Method one: First set the volume is 0, second press the MENU key to enter PICTURE menu,
then press the digital key to input 6568, the factory function can be realized.
Method two: First press REVIEW key, second press VOL- key at the same time, then the
factory function can be realized. Replace these operations, the PROD function can be realized.
The fast method at FACTORY mode: the SLEEP key is used to change among three modes,
the REVIEW key is used to exit from factory to normal.

6-5.Screen function
The screen function is realized when the SCREEN OPT. is set to related value. The waiting time
of blank screen (SCREEN TIME) is set according to the different CRT. The setup mark is
displayed in the process of waiting if the screen function has been set. If the screen left side isnt
covered, please set the OSD H.POSI. in the adjustment to the proper position. The hardware
need be changed to produce the phase pulse of CPU if the best state isnt set. The screen function
is not used if the screen is not adjusted.

6-6. Adjustable PP mode function at factory

First press PROD key to enter the ADJUST MENU, second press MENU key or
PICTURE key to picture menu, then it can display white word prompt STANDARD behind
the picture. This time press P.P key, the OSD cant disappear. The display character :**** will
be changed by PP mode. The PP mode can be changed, and the changed data is automatically
stored into EEPROM.

6-7.Factory mark setup

The factory mark is divided into two rows, it can set 16 characters every row. The content,
switch, font, color and position can be set. The factory mark is set, and at least one row among
them is set to TURN ON state. The factory OSD will be displayed when the screen is blue at no
signal. If the POWER LOGO is set to ON, the screen function is displayed at POWER ON.
1). Operation explanation
Press PROD key to enter the factory mode, it had two method to enter the factory mark setup
menu. Method 1: Press P.P key over 4 seconds to enter it. Method 2: When the volume data is
0, press the VOL- and POS- at the same time to enter it.
The factory menu have two screens, it is respectively used to adjust the first and second row.
After entering the setting menu, press the CH+/CH- key to select the option, if the option is
selected, there is the yellow piece on the screen to show the adjustment option. The other
OSD that are selected are red, otherwise the OSD are green. Press the VOL+/VOL- key to
select the value of selected option.
The adjustment of display content: pressing the CH+/CH- key to select the adjustment item.
The adjustment character is yellow and press the VOL+/VOL- key to adjust the content.
The P.MODE key is used to select the other character at the same row.
The OSD of menu is always displayed, pressing the DISPLAY key to exit after the setup
finish.
The factory mark is set to to see, to get. The display of content, color, font and position are
the same as normal, except the display of
that in the factory mode. So the result of
adjusting can be directly seen.
The setup of two rows content, please dont set to layer after layer, in order to prevent the
abnormality.
The factory mark can be set to immobile or mobile screen. Please refer to the adjust menu14
to set the screen type.

When the OVER.MOD.SW is set to 1 in MENU14, this function is can be used. The
OV.MOD.LEVEL used to adjust over modulate compensation. The program that has
been fine adjusted (AFT is OFF) can be adjusted over modulation compensation.

6-10.The realization of automatic adjusting at factory

Press PROD key circularly to enter BUS OPEN mode, the control right of CPU is handed
by the automatic adjustment instrument. The automatic adjustment instrument can send the data
through the BUS to adjust, the adjusted data must be written into the EEPROM. The data about
