Desiccant Wheel

A desiccant wheel uses a rotating wheel coated with a desiccant material like silica gel or lithium chloride to remove moisture from air. Process air passes through one section to be dehumidified while a second section is regenerated with hot air to release moisture back into the atmosphere. The desiccant wheel converts latent heat in the air to sensible heat, lowering humidity without changing the air temperature. Common manufacturers of desiccant wheels include Novelaire Technologies and Munters.

Low vapor pressure on the surface of the desiccant surface


SiO2 (Silica Gel), ClLi (Lithium Chloride), Al2O3 (Activated Alumina),
LiBr (Lithium Bromide) and Zeolithe.
Process air cools the heated desiccant wheel
Typically 75% part of desiccant wheel is used by process air
(dehumidification of air) and 25% by regeneration air (dehumidification
of desiccant wheel).
In desiccant wheel latent heat is converted to sensible heat

Reactivation temperature of Silica gel is 70 to 120 C
