Experiment: 1 Aim: Modeling and Simulation of Multi-Machine Power System
Procedure:
1. Study the 4 generators, 11 lines system and related data tables for the system given in the
reference book.
2. Perform the load flow using your program or any other tool and confirm the load flow results
with the system data. You can use these results to decide the initial conditions.
3. Model the given system as follows:
a. Transmission lines modelling:
Compute the line parameters and estimate the nominal-pi model of all the lines using
given data. The second line between bus 3 and bus 13 is to be modelled as equivalent pi model
and the third line between bus 3 and bus 13 is to be modelled as series R-L circuit neglecting
shunt capacitance. All other lines are to be modelled as nominal pi lines. Consider all the
transmission lines are of 220kV and 100 km.
b. Generators modelling:
Initially you can model all the generators as a voltage source and then model them with
detailed model of generator (use the given generator data). All generators are rated at 11 kV, 100
MVA, 50 Hz ratings
c. Transformer modelling.
All Transformers are to be modelled with given series impedance (refer given data) and
are rated at 11/220 kV, 100 MVA.
d. Model the loads and shunt susceptances with constant impedances.
4. Simulate the system and plot current and voltages at various buses. Compare (approximately)
the steady state results with the load flow results. Comment on the results.
5. Plot voltage profile for one line between bus 3 and bus 13 which is modeled with equivalent
pi model. You can measure the voltages at five locations. Comment on the results.
6. Compare currents and power flows over all the three lines between bus 3 and bus 13.
Comment on the results.
7. Remove the shunt capacitances at bus 3 and 13. Again plot the voltage profile for one line
between bus 3 and bus 13 which is modeled with equivalent pi model. Comment on the results.
8. Complete the experiment within two weeks and submit the report. Your report should includes
calculations of line parameters, load flow results, current and voltages at bus 3, power flows of
three parallel lines, voltage profile of one lime (modeled with equivalent-pi) with and without
shunt capacitance.
