Rotation

The document discusses rotations about the origin in degrees. A 90° anticlockwise rotation maps (x,y) to (-y,x). A 180° rotation maps (x,y) to (-x,-y). A 270° anticlockwise rotation maps (x,y) to (y,-x). An example problem is given where the point (3,-2) rotated clockwise 90° has the image point (-2,-3).

Rotation by 90° anticlockwise about the origin

(x, y) is rotated by 90° anticlockwise to (−y, x).

Example
A rotation by 90° about the origin can be seen in the picture below
in which A is rotated to its image A'.

Rotation by 180° about the origin

(x, y) is rotated by 180° to (−x, −y).

Example
A rotation by 180° about the origin can be seen in the picture below
in which A is rotated to its image A'.

Rotation by 270° anticlockwise about the origin

(x, y) is rotated by 180° to (y, −x).

Example
A rotation by 270° about the origin can be seen in the picture below in
which A is rotated to its image A'.

Example
2007.29 If the point (3, −2) is rotated clockwise about the origin through 90°, then the coordinates of its image are
A. (2, 3) . B. (3, 2) . C. (−2, −3) . D. (−3, −2) .

The image of (3, −2) after rotated clockwise 90° = (−2, −3) (the same as anticlockwise 270°)
