What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?

The filmmakers received feedback from audiences in two ways: a questionnaire completed by 20 people provided insight into what audiences expected and wanted to see in a social realism film, which informed the construction of their first draft. After the first draft, a structured interview with two target audience members provided feedback on how to improve the film, particularly noting that lighting could be better and break up fluidity; this led the filmmakers to focus on improving the lighting to make it flow better. The positive feedback on camera work and sound also motivated the filmmakers.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Feedback has been a crucial part of making sure our short film appealed to the audience
and followed conventions of a social realism film.
To start off we made a questionnaire
that we gave out to a total of 20
people. From this we were able to see
what people wanted to see and
expected to see in a social realism
film. The results from this
questionnaire allowed us constructed
a short film that our target audience
wanted to see and that would appeal
to them.

Once we had a first draft of our film we decided to construct a

structured interview with two people from our target audience.
This allowed us to see what they thought about it and how we
could improve. From this interview we found out that they
thought the lighting could be better as it broke up the fluidity of
the film and how effective it made it. This gave us an opportunity
to spend time focusing on the lighting and make sure it flowed
well within the film. Not only were we told how to improve our
film, but the positive feedback of our camera work and sound
gave us motivation and the confidence to carry on focusing on the
detail of the film.
