The student conducted an experiment to determine which exercise, jogging or jumping jacks, brings the heart rate up highest within 3 minutes. They hypothesized that jogging would be more effective but found that jumping jacks actually produced a greater average increase in heart rate of 45 beats per minute compared to jogging's average increase of 21 beats per minute. The results supported the conclusion that jumping jacks more effectively elevates the heart rate than jogging within a 3-minute time period.

Question: What exercise will bring up your heart rate to the highest in 3 minutes?
Why: To show what exercise will bring up your heart rate the highest
Variables:
Independent: The exercise (jogging, jumping jacks)
Dependent: Pulse
Control: person, clothes, liter of water, the time (how long), area where they work out,
the way you check your pulse,
Hypothesis: I think the jogging will be the best exercise because running brings up your heart
rate and breathing really fast
Materials: Timer, area to exercise, proper clothes, running shoes
Procedure: 1. Check initial heart rate by taking pulse in neck or wrist 30x2
2. Start jogging for 3 minutes on the spot
3. When done check pulse for 30x2
4. Take 10 minute break while drinking water
5. Check pulse for 30x2
6. Do jumping jacks for 3 minutes
7. When done take pulse for 30x2
8. Take 10 minute break while drinking water
9. When done take heart rate results and put into graph/table
Discussion: In my hypothesis I thought jogging would be the exercise that would bring up your
heart rate the highest but it turns out it was jumping jacks. When we did our trials, we had 3
different people. The 3 people only did one trial per exercise. In total we had six trials all
together. I think for next time we should keep with 1 person and do about 5 trials.
Some problems we had were we did the exercises in the common area with another group and
people were practicing drama or walking by. I think that got us a bit distracted so we didnt try
as hard as we could have.
I dont think we need to change our procedure but we could do our experiment because like I
said before we did our trials with 3 different people so we should do the experiment with 1
person instead.
Conclusion: My hypothesis was incorrect. I thought jogging would bring up your heart rate the
highest but it was actually jumping jacks.
