Unit: Rainy Day Activity Grade: 9-12 Lesson Activity: Dance Dance Revolution Lesson #1 Class Size: 22 Date:
Instructional Objectives (Skill, Condition, Criteria):
Students will be able to learn how to stay physically active at
home on rainy days.
Cognitive (Know) How technology is effecting physical
education in both positive and negative ways. Students will also
know how to work various video game stations in an affective
manner.
Psychomotor (Does) Students will use the game Dance Dance
Revolution (DDR) for cardiovascular activity.
Affective (Values) Students will improve their cardiovascular
system, agility, coordination, reaction time, and balance.
Literacy Cardiovascular, Simultaneously, Hop, Intimidate,
BPM.

Muscular endurance of the lower extremities will be challenged
well dancing for extended periods of time.

Safety Considerations:
Make sure Students are hydrated.
Students are dancing with different intensity levels in a hot
classroom; Students mouths will get very dry, due to the warm air,
therefore allow students to get water breaks. Inform your students
not to drink or leave any water bottles near the equipment.

Modifications / Adaptations:
If students are have difficulties performing at a certain level, they
can change the settings to easier or slower. This also works if the
students are not being challenged enough.

Learning Activity/Sample Task:
1. Introduction/Set Induction:
Students will get into rows and find their own personal space. The
instructor will go over how DDR is played (Step on the arrow as
it moves into the hollow shape on the top of the screen). As a
class students will rotate using the maps that are available.
Students who dont have a map will use poly spots and follow
along.

Lesson Focus: Teach students how to intergrade technology into


physical activity for lifetime fitness.
Task 1 Teach the students how the game works. Show students
that they must hit the arrows at the right time and if they dont the
song will stop and the next student will get their turn on the mat.
Task Extension Students will begin to play on their own as the
instructor assess the students in the class.
Culminating Activity Give a positive and negative closure about
the progress of the class and have a closure about the new
vocabulary words that were given during todays lesson

Additional Information
While using the mats, students are prohibited to wear their
sneakers, because this may damage the mats.

Have students gather around you as you begin to start up the


game.
Teach the students how the game works. Show students that
they must hit the arrows at the right time and if they dont the
song will stop and the next student will get their turn on the
mat.
Have students get to their own personal spots and pick two
students to start on the mats.
Two students will be chosen to begin on the mats, while the
other students have their personal space with their poly spots.
The instructor will assign a student to choose a song to play
and the class will have to follow the games instructions. Any
name-calling will result in not being able to use the mat. If
students fail to complete the song or the song finishes, two
new students will get their chance to play.
Give a positive and negative closure about the progress of the
class and have a closure about the new vocabulary words that
were given during todays lesson.
