1. Use the Heatx block to calculate the state of the cold stream and the heat transfer
area required when the streams in the following table are passed through a
countercurrent heat exchanger. The overall heat transfer coefficient is 95 Btu/(hr ft2
R). The desired outlet temperature of the hot stream is 70F. The temperature of the
hot feed is 140F while the temperature of the cold feed is 40F. Both streams are at
14.7 psig.

2. A three stage isentropic compressor is to compress 180 std ft3/min of methane from 1
atm to 60 atm. The inlet temperature is 80F. The heat duty for each interstage cooler
is 55,660 btu/hr and the mechanical efficiency for each stage is 80%.
a) What is the total brake horsepower in hp?
b) What is the discharge temperature from the third stage in F?
c) Calculate the compression ratio for each stage?
