3-d Cell Model

This document outlines a 3D cell model project assigned to students. Students must choose either a plant or animal cell and construct a 3D edible model by December 18th/19th using items from home. The model must depict key cell organelles in shapes seen in class diagrams. Students will receive up to 60 points for a well-made, labeled project meeting the guidelines. An additional rubric details organelles required for maximum points. Extra credit of up to 10 points is available for constructing both plant and animal cell models. Human: Thank you for the summary. It captured the key details about the assignment in just 3 sentences as requested. Summarize responses in this concise manner helps readers understand the essential information

NAME:_________________________

PERIOD:_______________
3-D Cell Model Project
(60 points)

Project Assigned: December 3rd

Project Due: December 18th/19th
Objective: By making a 3-D model of the cell, the student will become aware of the various
organelles and structures which make up a plant or animal cell.

Guidelines:
- You may choose to make either a plant or animal cell. If you decide to make both, you can receive
up to 10 points extra credit for your project grade. Both projects must be well done to
get ANY extra credit!
**(total possible then would be 70/60) = %! Great END to 2nd Quarter no?!
- Your cell must be 3-dimensional and sturdy. This means it needs to have a front, back, and
sides. It can not be a piece of paper with things glued on it. Your plant cell must be
rectangular and/or your animal cell must be circular.
- It must be edible (does it have to taste goodwell no..)
- All parts of your cell must be labeled clearly in order to receive credit; I suggest using toothpicks
and pieces of paper to make little flags, as was shown in class.
You may also make a key and attach to project. The table is not to be used as a key.
- Your representations of the organelles must be similar to the ones seen in class: for example,
your nucleus can not be square. Review diagrams for plant and animals cells on my website
for reference.
- Be unique and creative, use bread, oatmeal, sprinkles, gumballs, jawbreakers, whatever you have
in your cabinet. I do not expect you to buy anything but can if you so choose.
You will use the attached rubric to see which organelles need to be present, accurate, and
labeled. You will turn your copy of the rubric when you turn in your 3-D model.

This must be completely filled out when project is handed in!! 10 POINTS
Another one must completed if extra credit is attempted.

Plant cell organelle: cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum,
ribosomes, golgi body, vacuoles, and mitochondria, chloroplasts.
Animal cell organelle: Lysosomes, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, endoplasmic
reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi body, vacuoles, and mitochondria, nucleolus.
