Causes For A Drop Call On A UMTS Network

There are several possible causes for drop calls on a UMTS network, including poor coverage, pilot pollution, missing neighbors, synchronization collisions, delayed handovers, congestion preventing hand-ins, loss of synchronization, fast fading, delayed inter-RAT triggers, and hardware issues or external interference. Access failures can also occur due to missing neighbors, poor coverage, pilot pollution, poor cell reselection, core network issues, lack of admission control resources, or hardware problems. Processing gains in UMTS networks range from 10-25dB depending on the channel type and coding used.
