Franklin D.

Roosevelt:
Americas Most Popular President

Topic:
I was able to choose my topic by discussing ideas with my history
teacher from the previous year. I mentioned a couple different political
leaders, and we discussed each one. I had thought of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
I finally decided on Roosevelt when she told me he was a great idea and I
would be able to tie a lot of his actions into the topic. I brought the idea
home and discussed it with my mother. She told me he was a great historical
leader. After I got two people saying Roosevelt was a great political leader, I
decided he would make a great project.
Research:
I gathered my information from the Main Library in downtown Little
Rock, Arkansas. I got as many books as I could on the subject and began
skimming through them. Once I got the sections I knew I needed, I printed
them out. From there I thoroughly read my sources. I also found primary
sources online in the FDR Presidential Library and online databases
containing periodicals. I used the primary resources to set a historical picture
of what the Great Depression and the New Deal would be like.
Selection and Project:
I selected a website because I had done a website the previous year
and I was able to better display my content on a website. I decided to pick
the category I knew I could work with and operate. I created my project by
gathering the pictures, websites, quotes and words I wanted to incorporate
into the website and began constructing it on the given National History Day
Weebly website. I split the information into categories to create my tabs
within my website. I also used the pictures, quotes, and color of the fonts to
draw the reader into the website.
Relation:
My project relates to the leadership portion of the theme because
Franklin D. Roosevelt was a president during the time of the Great
Depression. He was also a role model for the citizens of the nation because
he was able to do great things during times of trial. His vice president, Harry
S. Truman, helped carry out his legacy by molding the New Deal into the

Fair Deal and continuing the idea of helping the citizens of the nation by
setting up programs.
