Transition to lesson
Before leaving the classroom tell the students that it is time to go to gym.
Tell the students that it is an expectation that they will run 5 full laps before
going to have a seat in the middle of the gym and waiting patiently and
silently for instructions.

Time
Have students sit on the floor. The teacher will go over the rules of the
activity before starting:
Volleyball Bumps
- Students will all line up along the back wall of the gymnasium on one side
of the volleyball net. (tell students that there will be no pushing shoving or
arguments while lining up, or both parties will be sent to the back of the
line.) The teacher will stand in front of the net and throw a ball to the first
students in line, they will then bump the volleyball over the net. They will
go retrieve their volleyball, return it to the ball basket and go to the back of
the line.
- The drill will get repeated 2 or 3 times, depending on time.

- Volleyball Sets
- Students will have a seat on the floor to go over rules for the next activity.
- Students will be numbered 1 through 26. All students given an even

Assessments/ Differentiation
Students will come and sit on the floor of the gym for instruction for the next
activity.
Volleyball serves
- Discuss with students the basics of serving and demonstrate proper
technique
- Have students break into 4 teams (numbers 1-6, 7-12, 12-18, 19-26 will
become teams). Teams will be on either side of the volleyball net. The first
team of students will serve their volley balls from one side to the other.
- Team 2 who is on the other side of the net will retrieve those balls and take
their turn serving the volleyballs back to the other side
- the third team will then retrieve those balls and serve over the net to the
fourth team.
- Fourth team serves to the first team and this drill will continue through 3
times.

Transition To Next Lesson Next lesson we will be playing a full game of volleyball where the students
can implement all of the techniques that they have learned
Sponge Activity
Setting challenge:
Students each receive a ball, they will hold the ball in their hands until the
teacher counts down from 3. Students will then begin setting the ball to
themselves as many times as they can without letting the ball hit the floor.
If they drop the ball then the student sits down. Last students remaining
wins!
