Last Class On Patterns

This lesson plan focuses on patterns for grades 3 and 4. The lesson objectives are for students to identify, describe, and create patterns. Introduction
We will be reading a book today that was recommended to me by Miss
Gough cross the hall
Who can remind me what a pattern is? Can anyone give me an example?
Students are expected to listen to the story; students are expected to try
and answer questions they are asked; students are expected to start their
tuques and start drawing patterns
Read the book
Do pattern tuques
We are going to read a story about patterns first and then we are going to
make our own pattern tuques

Get students to figure out what patterns occur in the book
Ask students at the end to explain what patterns they saw in the
book
Ask students if they can think of was to figure out patterns

Design a tuque with patterns
Each student gets a tuque
Students have to make at least five different patterns on their
tuques
They can use numbers, shapes, pictures, words, etc.
Students are to have at least 3 patterns with two different shapes,
images, etc.
Students are to have at least 2 patterns with three different shapes,
images, etc.
Assessment
Are students able to create their own patterns? LO 2
Closure
What patterns do students create on their tuques?
Does anyone have any questions about patterns and how to find them,
create them, or figure them out?
Comment on their respect in reading time; on their work ethic on creating
the pattern tuques
Next class we will start to review for the test on Wednesday
