Modulators and Demodulators (AM & DSB-SC) : Modulator

This document discusses various modulation and demodulation techniques used in communication systems. It describes product modulation which can generate either amplitude modulation (AM) or double sideband suppressed carrier (DSB-SC) signals. Square-law modulation is also discussed as a way to generate DSB-SC signals if certain conditions are met. Balanced modulators and switching modulators are introduced as other methods for modulation. Switching modulation involves multiplying the signal by a periodic switching signal, which shifts the signal spectrum in multiples of the switching frequency. A bandpass filter can then be used to select the sidebands centered at the switching frequency to produce a DSB-SC signal.

Switching Modulators
DSB-SC signal can be obtained by applying the signal to a
bandpass filter. The bandpass filter allows those frequency
components centered at c to pass and attenuates all
other frequency components.
