The University of Manchester is recruiting for three Retail Assistants at the new Whitworth : the 21st century
gallery in the park.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising sales opportunities and delivering exceptional customer
service through in-depth product knowledge and impeccable shop standards.
The duties of the job include:

Delivering exceptional customer service at all times, greeting customers politely, recommending suitable
products and achieving add-on sales through engaging conversations
Meeting and exceeding all required sales targets
Keeping the shop areas well stocked and beautifully merchandised
Maintaining the cleanliness of the shop, keeping all areas tidy and free of clutter, ensuring standards are met
at all time
Proactively keeping up to date with all current and future exhibitions at the gallery
Using downtime to proactively build and enhance in-depth product knowledge
Following guidelines and principles on visual merchandising and gift wrapping
Processing sales in an efficient, friendly and responsible manner
Upholding ethical standards in all areas of work
Supervising cashing up and banking of daily takings, as required
Delivering any other duties as required relevant to this post

Experience of working in a retail or sales environment


Target driven, with a positive, can-do attitude
Genuine interest in, and passion for, art, culture and heritage
Approachable, friendly, engaging and outgoing personality
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people
Ability to build rapport, to influence and make recommendations through engaging conversations
A meticulous eye for detail and excellent visual merchandising skills
Proactive approach to learning and development

Must be flexible to work weekends and evenings as part of a rota
