gifts for Jesus, singing songs, and playing games.
What to wear: Its a Pyjama Party so wear your Pyjamas to

What to bring: Students are invited to bring a special treat to

the class we are unable to provide the students with any food
treats. However, if you are willing to send in one treat for your
child to have during Jesus Birthday party, such as a cupcake
or cookie or candy, your child will be able to enjoy it during
the party.

COLD WEATHER UPDATE

A reminder to label each
individual article of clothing sent
to school with your child. It if
often difficult to distinguish
between similar looking items
such as hats, gloves and uniform
sweaters.
Also, any help continuing to
practice independent dressing
and zipper, snap or button
fastening would be greatly
appreciated. We are
encouraging the students to
practice these essential skills daily
in order to foster independence
as we grow in our learning
environment.

Dont forget about our upcoming Christmas

Concert on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at
9:40am in the gym. We hope to see you there!

Guided Reading
The students are so excited about bringing home their guided
reading books and reading with their groups in the class. Please
remember to keep the reading book inside the communication
folder so that books are accessible to the teacher for recirculation. Daily reading lesson groups change based on the
needs and abilities of each child so your guided reading book
must be returned daily.

Christmas Treat Bags

A reminder that we have a
number of seriours allergies in our
classroom to the following foods:
Nuts, Treenuts, Legumes (such as
beans and lentils), and Bananas.
If you are feeling festive and
want to spread some Christmas
Cheer, we remind you that only
non edible gifts will be able to be
distributed to the students in the
class. Gifts such as pencils,
ornaments, and stickers are
always a safe idea if you choose
to send home individual gifts.
If you are sending home
individual gifts we have 28
students in the class. We would
appreciate items being labled
To my friend as it helps in
distribution.
PLEASE NOTE: No gifts are
necessary, all participation is
completely optional.

Making Math Meaningful

This month we will continue our work with shapes and
figures while we explore 3D Geometry.
We will also practice counting and estimating the
number of objects in a group as we explore
numbers.
Some examples of activities that can support your
childs learning at home are:
OPEN BOXES

HOW MANY?

Building and sorting with old cereal and

cracker boxes can be a fun 3D shape exercise.
Once you have recorded all the boxes you
have used help your child cut the empty cereal
or cracker boxes on the fold lines and open
them up. You can then discuss the different 2D
shapes you have found. He or she can then
practice their scissor skills by cutting on the fold
lines to make different squares and rectangles
and use these shapes to create a picture.

Look for everyday opportunities to estimate

and count objects together. How many
(apples) do you think are in this grocery bag?
Lets count to check. How many socks do
you think are in the laundry basket? Lets
make pairs and count by 2s to check.

BUILDING BLOCKS
Building with blocks gives your child the
opportunity to explore the properties of
different solid shapes. You might ask, Which
blocks are better for a sturdy base (or the top
of a structure)? Are there any blocks that are
flat on one side and curved on another side?
