CE 3155 - Structural Analysis (Part 2) Tutorial 5

This document provides a summary of tutorial 5 from the course CE 3155 - Structural Analysis (part 2). It contains two structural analysis problems involving a beam supported at points A, B, and C. The first problem asks to determine the maximum positive reaction at support A and the maximum positive shear just to the right of A, given various loads on the beam. The second problem asks to determine the maximum moment at support C caused by moving loads on the beam. The answers provided are that the maximum positive reaction RA is 256kN, the maximum positive shear VA+ is 128kN, and the maximum moment at C is 201kNm.

CE 3155 Structural Analysis (part 2)

Tutorial 5
1) The beam is used to support a dead load of 8kN/m, a live load of 40kN/m and a
concentrated live load of 32kN. Determine (a) the maximum positive vertical
reaction at A, and (b) the maximum positive shear just to the right of the support at
A.
For each of the cases, show the combination of loads that results in the most critical
reaction. Assume A is a roller, C is fixed and B is pinned.

2) Determine the maximum moment at C caused by the moving loads.

Answers:
1) Max positive RA = 256kN, Max positive VA+ = 128kN.
2) 201kNm.
