Windload Computations

This document contains wind load calculations for a proposed 94m x 77m warehouse located in Parañaque City, Philippines. It identifies the basic wind speed, importance factor, exposure, and calculation procedure used. It then calculates the velocity pressures, pressure coefficients, and net design wind pressures for various surfaces and zones of the main wind force resisting system and components/claddings. Wind loads are calculated for both normal and parallel wind directions.

WIND LOAD CALCULATIONS

A 94m x 77m warehouse with data as follows:

LOCATION:
Paraaque City

TERRAIN:
Flat Open Terrain

DIMENSIONS:
94m x 77m

EAVE HEIGHT:
13m

RIDGE HEIGHT:
17m

MAIN WIND FORCE RESISTING SYSTEM

EXPOSURE AND BUILDING CLASSIFICATION
The warehouse is located on flat and open terrain. It may not fit
exposures B or D; therefore EXPOSURE C is used.
IMPORTANCE FACTOR, Iw
The building's function is a commercial-industrial. It is not an
essential Facility or likely to be occupied by 300 persons at one
time. Category IV is appropriate; Therefore, Iw = 1.0
BASIC WIND SPEED, V
The building is in Paraaque City, which is in Zone 2 of the
Philippine Wind Zone Map. Therefore the Basic Wind Speed is
V=200 kph.
CALCULATION PROCEDURE
Method 2. Analytical Procedure is used in this structure. In
addition, provisions of building of all heights, given in Section
207.5.12.2.1 for MWFRS will be used.
WIND DIRECTIONALITY, Kd
Wind Direcrtionality Factor, Kd=0.85 for MWFRS and Components
and Claddings.

DESIGN WIND PRESSURE

Design wind pressures for MWFRS of this building can be
obtained using section 207.5.12.2 for low-rise buildings. In this
case, pressures are determined using buildings of all heights
criteria:
p = qGCp qi(GCpi)
Where:
q = qz for windward wall at height z above ground
q = qh for leeward wall, side walls and roof at height h
qi = qz for enclosed buildings
G = Gust effect factor
GCpi = Internal pressure coefficient
GUST EFFECT FACTOR, G
The gust factor for this case is G=0.85 as permitted in Section
207.5.8.6
EXTERNAL PRESSURE COEFFICIENTS, Cp
The pressure coefficients for the windward walls and side walls are
0.8 and -0.7 respectively for all L/B ratios. The leeward wall
pressure coefficient is a function of L/B ratio,
NORMAL TO RIDGE : L/B = 110/96 = 1.14
PARALLEL TO RIDGE : L/B = 96/110 = 0.87
By linear interpolation, the pressure coefficient for leeward wall
(normal to ridge) is -0.47. For leeward wall (parallel to ridge), since
L/B is between 0-1, Cp is -0.5.
