Devices Lab Report Reverse Diode Bias: Prepared By: Mohamed Saeed Abdullah Hammad 207

This lab report examines the behavior of a diode in reverse bias connected in RC circuits. The student connects the diode in two circuits and tweaks its model parameters, observing the output. In the first circuit, decreasing the diode's junction capacitance Cjo from 15nF to 15pF to 1e-20F causes the circuit to operate as a high pass filter with a higher cutoff frequency at lower Cjo values. In the second circuit with the diode inverted, the behavior is reversed, operating as a low pass filter where decreasing Cjo increases the cutoff frequency. The student performs transient, AC sweep, and parametric analyses while varying diode and circuit parameters.

Devices Lab Report

Reverse Diode Bias

Introduction
In this Lab we will use the diode in an RC circuit, tweak its model parameters,
observe its behavior in the circuit and conclude how it can be used in a
circuit.

Procedures
1-Connect the Circuit as shown

2- Edit Cjo to be 15nf

Reverse Diode Bias

3- Create a new simulation profile and edit it

4-for Cjo=15nF

For Cjo= 15pF

The output is phase shifted

Reverse Diode Bias

For Cjo= 1e-20F

5-Replace the sine source with an AC source and do the AC sweep

For Cjo = 15nf

For Cjo = 15pf

Reverse Diode Bias

For Cjo = 1e-20F

the circuit operates as a high pass filter The lesser the Cjo the higher the fc ,from
fc=1/2Rc.At first the signal passes then after we decrease Cjo the signal passes but
attenuated (fsouce<fc) but after we decrease Cjo further the signal doesnt pass at all.

6- circuit 2 (inverting the diode with the resistance) : Transient analysis

For Cjo=15nF

For Cjo = 15pf

For Cjo=1e-20F

7-Circuit 2 , AC sweep:
For Cjo=15nF

For Cjo =15pF

Reverse Diode Bias

For Cjo=1e-20F

the circuit operates as a low pass filter so instead of the signal getting attenuated or
disappear altogether when we decrease Cjo the signal passes at low Cjo but as Cjo increase
fc decreases cutting the signal away from the pass band zone

8- in the first circuit, edit the diode parameter M to be equal to 0.42 and VJ =
0.75V with a 15pF Cjo

9-edit the sine amplitude to 0.5V and VDC to 0.5V

VDC = 9.5V

10-AC Sweep:

VDC=9.5V

11- Parametric sweep For the second circuit using AC source with amplitude
0.5V
