Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizenship is a subject you will hear more and
more these days. Most children have regular access to
the internet and to each
other through the use of
various devices. Even with
families who are of a lower
socioeconomic status have
options to stay connected. A
lot of children have the internet or android capabilities at
home, school, or even in a
doctors office. With this
level of technology, families
and children are having to
take on a new responsibilitydigital citizenship. What
does that really mean
though? It means, just because youre not face to face
to someone doesnt mean
you shouldnt be respectful
of their feelings. Its necessary to be even more aware
of words, photos, infor-

mation, websites, and even

music we use when talking
and texting, or working
online.
This is a topic that
every parent should discuss
with their child. But, it
shouldnt stop there. Its no
longer just a conversation, it
needs to include active monitoring. Parents and families
who use the internet or cell
phones in the home, should
be paying attention to apps,
games, chatter, photos,
videos, networking, websites, and overall usage of
devices. Parents and caregivers should be aware of
what messages children are
sending each other as well
as programs and photos that
are shared. Children wont
know that its not safe to
share private information of
others or themselves unless

we inform them. They should

also know that just because
theyre feeling so confidante
and protected by the computer its okay to be mean or
hurtful with one another.
Just because theres a computer in front of you, that
doesnt make it ok to tease
or bully. Please talk with
your child about what you
are finding online or on their
phones when you check up
on them. Let them know
when a behavior is not acceptable. Also set ground
rules for usage, and guidelines to stay safe. Having
these conversations early
could be a life saver later.

Using a Cloud
Sharing files and information has come such a long way.
Now its easier than ever to get your
computer generated files from one
place to another, anywhere there is
internet. Using a cloud can be so
much easier than trying to find
and/or keep up with a USB drive.
Upload your work to the cloud of
your choice and its ready anywhere

you can sign in to it. Great for

uploading papers to be printed at
work or schools, working between
school and home. Its easy for your
child to forget their USB drives day
of class. Now you dont have to
worry, just sign in to your cloud and
retrieve the information. You can
even check over the work from a
different computer, by signing into
the cloud. What if you dont have
the same program at home to work

Dates to Remember

let you edit your document by using

Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a new program our class will be using to manage behavior. It will be available for
parents to view on the internet or using the app. This behavior plan can help you monitor you
child behavior on a daily or weekly basis. Children will be given points for behaviors that are favorable, and points will be deducted for behaviors that are not appropriate. Children will be have the
ability to see their progress in the classroom. Parents will have the opportunity to review behaviors, for the entire year as the program keeps a running chart. Behavior progress charts can be
printed for hard copies.

Padlet
Padlet is a new program our
class will be using to collaborate
on projects together. It is an
internet based program that
student will be able to access
from the classroom or from
home. There will be a center set
up in the classroom for student
to visit each day to complete
short responses to one another.
Its like a class message board,
only safer. We will be using this
tool more and more in the classroom this year to get student
used to reading on the comput-

on the computer, and practicing
their typing skills. All posts will
be closely monitored and inappropriate posts will not be tolerated.

Class Website
Please continue to visit our class website
for important updates for homework and
class dates. By the end of the year we
would like to continue our schools efforts
to go green, and be a paper less class
room.

Selecting pictures or graphics is an important part of adding content to your
newsletter.
Think about your article and ask yourself if
the picture supports or enhances the message youre trying to convey. Avoid selecting images that appear to be out of context.
