LEARNING TARGET:

Students must use basic keyboarding skills.

Student must determine which technology will help produce and publish a piece of writing.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How can a writer develop a paper appropriate to task and purpose?
RELATED STANDARDS/COURSE OBJECTIVES:

appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are
W.5.1-3.)
X W.5.10 - Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and
revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of disciplinespecific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

when writing or speaking.

MATERIALS:
Teacher Materials: Teacher's Guide, Discussion prompts,
Student Materials: Writer's Notebooks, pencil, Computer Lab

PROCEDURES: TW provide guidelines and expectations for the computer lab prior to taking students
into computer lab. T&S will go to computer lab with their writing pieces to begin typing their final
drafts.
ASSESSMENT:SWBAT use basic keyboarding skills.
SWBAT determine which technology will help produce and publish a piece of writing.
GROUPING STRUCTURES:WG/Ind.
REFLECTION: This lesson takes place during our writing time at the end of a unit. I was surprised at
the amount of time that it took students to type and format their papers. Fortunately, we were able to
squeeze extra time at the lab for this particular lesson but in the future I will plan to spend more time
there. It took a few days of going to the lab in order for students to complete their writing and print.
Due to sharing the lab with the entire school, we dont have as much time as I would like to use the lab.
I wish that we had more accessibility to technology because I would like to incorporate it more but I
feel giving them the few days to be able to actually use the computers and use flash drives gave them a
scene of responsibility and experience using technology. I will use computers in my own classroom and
hope to have more access to technology in the future.
