Subject:
EXPERIMENT I:
VERIFICATION of KIRCHOFFS LAW
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. To study and verify Kirchoffs Laws
2. To examine Kirchoffs Laws
3. To apply KVL and KCL in a simple series-parallel circuit
II. EQUIPMENT/COMPONENT:
1. dc power supply
2. carbon film resistors
3. DMM and Analog Ammeter
4. breadboard
5. connecting wires
III. THEORY:
KIRCHOFFS LAW
All circuits can be solved by Kirchhoffs laws because the laws
do not depend on series or parallel connections.
Kirchhoffs voltage and current laws were stated in 1847 by the
German physicist Gustav R. Kirchhoff.
KVL: The algebraic sum of the voltage sources and IR voltage drops in
any closed path must total zero.
KCL: At any point in a circuit, the algebraic sum of the currents
directed into and out of a point must total zero.
V - V1 - V2 - V3 = 0
V - IR1 - IR2 - IR3 = 0
IV.PROCEDURE:
A. Kirchoffs Voltage Law
1. Construct the given circuit.
2. R1, R2 and R3 are selected such that the total current in the
circuit is within 100mA.
3. The voltage across the resistor V1, V2 and V3 are measured by
a Digital voltmeter/ Multimeter for 5V as input voltage and
tabulated.
4. Repeat the above procedure for input voltages 8V, 10V & 12V.
5. By comparing theoretical and experimental values the
Kirchoffs voltage law is verified.
