To protect cells in Excel, follow these steps: select the cells you want users to be able to edit, give the range a title if desired, protect the sheet while checking the boxes to allow editing of the selected range and contents of locked cells, saving the file. Now only the selected cells can be edited, while other cells will prompt for a password if the user tries to change them.

HOW TO PROTECT THE CELLS IN EXCEL

STEP 1

Click => Allow users to Edit range

STEP 2

Click => New in the Allow users to Edit range dialog box

STEP 3

Give title if required

STEP 4

Select the range(usually where you give inputs),


wherever you want to edit the cells, use Ctrl key for multiple selection

STEP 5

If required give password, else leave it free.


If you gave password, it will ask password for give input also

STEP 6

Select the protect sheet tab for protect the sheet

STEP 7

Protect sheet dialog box will appear, check the 1st two check boxes,
Ensure balance check boxes were unchecked

STEP 8

Save the file


Now enter your inputs in relevant cells. It will allow you to change those cells

STEP 9

If you try enter anything in other cells, the dialog box will appear as shown
