Abstract
Impact Analysis of Distributed Generation Systems on Smart Grid
In the twenty-first century, the most critical and important issues regarding the global problems of climate change are Smart Grid and renewable energy technologies. The evolution of the current centralized production in the form of distributed generation and smart grids offer an excellent opportunity to eliminate several problems related to energy efficiency, energy security, quality of food and the disadvantage of aging infrastructure supply system.
To meet the growing demand for electricity and improve service quality and reduce pollution, the existing power grid infrastructure should be developed into a smart grid that has the flexibility to interconnect with the distributed generation. However, integrating distributed generation to power systems causes many technical problems, in particular the stability of the system. Therefore, to fully answer the question, the current systems of existing plants should be immediately assigned Smart Grid. To make the grid becomes more "intelligent, particularly in terms of stability and flexibility, flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices, especially static VAR compensators (SVC) are used.
With the concept of Smart Grid, there is a strong possibility that the interconnection of distributed generation problems can be solved and minimized. This thesis focuses on the impact of distributed generation on Smart Grid technology, in particular, it identifies and determines whether the system is stable or not after the installation of distributed generation in Smart Grid systems. This was done by examining the main parameters of stability of the system such as power, frequency and voltage angle.
Simulation Result shows that the SVC is the grid become more intelligent. This is done because SVC has the ability to improve system stability by improving the voltage, either by injection or absorption of reactive power during the integration of distributed generation.
