What is the difference between Oracle eAM and FA?

Q) What is the difference between Oracle eAM (enterprise Asset Management) and FA (Oracle
Assets Module)?

A1) The eAM is a module that holds the logistic transactions with Assets that u
are using for manufacturing and the FA is a module that holds the "finance"
activities of the assets like depreciation and accounting transactions.

A2) The differences between eAM and FA are the to work on assets and with eAM
you can schedule a maintenance for your assets.
Which is you can not do in FA.
A3) In eAM supported by Preventive and Predictive Maintenance strategies are
supported and FA these functionalities are not there. The eAM are also
called maintenance application..
A4) Basically EAM and FA deals with same set of Assets. As far difference is
concerned EAM module specifically designed for Maintenance of Assets and FA
deals with Financial or accounting part like Capitalization and
Depreciation. Check out Release Content Document for EAM in R12, many new
features are included which links Assets in EAM and FA.
A5) The eAM is Enterprise Asset Management module in which you can plan, control & perform
various maintenance activities. Where as in Fixed Asset (FA) you can only carried out only Financial
related activities.

Q2) Can EAM be implemented without implementing FA?

A1) YES
A2) Yes, you can implement without FA.
A3) Yes ..you can.They are not dependent modules.



Whats different EAM and Fixed Asset?
In Short, EAM - Enterprise Asset Management - deals mostly with asset management (physical -
not financial) . Typical example are:
optimizing inspections
improving efficiency of work order and preventative maintenance programs
asset tracking from purchases through warranties
implementing effective equipment-based maintenance schedules to reduce downtime
Whereas Fixed Asset will achieve many of the same goals for financial management (streamlining,
cost reductions etc.) , this mostly deal with deprecaition , disposal etc .
