Introduction to the Problem:

What is Cafe?

• A cafe is a place from where people come for entertainment and can get all
sorts of eatable and drinkable things.
• Now a day’s cafe is also a party place for people enjoyment.

The food industry is very competitive now a day the lifestyle changes created by
modern living continue to fuel its steady growth. More and more people have less
time, resources, and ability to cook for themselves.

The inspiration that laid the foundation of the food industry as we know it today
came from the most unlikely of all sources, campus placed canteens and tuck
shops. Students of well based institutions like the University Of Punjab and other
famous institutions needed a place for informal discussions. The only place with
such a casual atmosphere which could be provided along with convenience was
the café. For obvious reasons human nature desires and regards change at
every level. Therefore, the concept of a group of students getting together and
going out grows purely out of the need for such a change. Places like Indus
Restaurant on The Mall Road, Lahore and Tangiers Ice Cream Parlor became
frequently visited venues of these students. Simultaneously, another group of
people were utilizing many of the same venues along with certain others like
Salloo's on The Mall Road. These were businessmen who conducted both formal
business and personal gatherings at these sites. They further contributed in the
evolution of the food industry by expanding such visits with their families on
weekends. Hence, the concept of families eating out stemmed. This led to the
need for variety and many new places cropped up on the scene.

Another turning point that shaped this evolution was the emergence of the 9 - 5
corporate office culture. Many people initially used to bring lunch from home.
Then certain delivery services came into being that provided the facility of getting
food delivered from homes to offices during the lunch hour. Other changes like
food stalls and "dhabbas" around office facilities took place and provided an
economical alternative to office workers. With the passage of time, many of these
places developed into well structured eateries or food chains that specialized in
catering to workers and businessmen during the lunch hour.

It is true that a country's economic status and development shapes the destiny of
all agricultural, industrial and educational departments. With the economic
changes that took place in Pakistan over time, we all agree that inflation is the
most commonly remembered consequence. This is to signify that despite

increased expense of living and in spite of raised cost of maintenance, expansion

took place in all quarters. The food industry also gradually expanded in the face
of all economic challenges. The modern era of the food industry can be attributed
to the categorization of the city into residential and commercial areas. Gulberg,
once a high class residential area gave way to rampant commercialization. Main
Boulevard of Gulberg paved the way for offices and plazas whereas MM Alam
Road became the headquarters of small businesses and restaurants. Arguably,
one of the first places that somehow expedited the modern concept of eating out
was 'Copper Kettle'. It primarily targeted younger adults with its unique
atmosphere, unusual menu and star attractions like 'Steak' and the ever famous
'Caked Alaska'. After the success of this, one remembers restaurant after
restaurant and chain after chain dotting the face of the city.

During this entire process, Pakistan caught up with globalization and international
chains like McDonald's, KFC, and Pizza Hut began to establish themselves on a
franchise basis. The government of Pakistan also caught up with the entire
theme of industrializing the concept of eating out. Traditional places that have
always been the center of excellence in food and charming, rustic atmosphere
like Laxmi Chowk underwent a drastic face-lift. Gawalmandi and Old Anarkali
were transformed into marvelous, modern (food streets) that reflected the
traditional flavor and architecture of the city. This chain of events truly ensured
that things don't slow down from there onwards.

In this regard, things have been anything but static in the food industry. The
latest trend is cafes that cater to customers twenty-four hours a day. The
accelerated development of night life in Lahore the future lies in more 24-hour
cafes, restaurants and drive-through eateries.

Culture and food are inseparable. Particularly in Lahore, food is the culture. It is a
phenomenon which is enjoyed by people today, as it has been enjoyed and
cherished long in the past, and will continue to do so in the future, as the food
industry develops further and more avenues are explored in the exciting world of
palatal delights.

There are almost 50 Cafes in Lahore city, out of which only 10 to 15 are well
known. Cafe business had a rapid growth in last 3 to 4 years and occurs a
significant and a very much valued place in business line.

Objective of the study

Our objective is that of a multi-faceted success.

• The first Objective of Gorillaz Cafe is to the financial well-being.

• The effect of our products on the health and well being of our customers.

• Our business practices and choices will leave a good impact on the
environment.

• The high quality of attitude, fairness, understanding, and generosity

between management, staff, customers, and vendors. Awareness of all
these factors and the responsible actions that result will give our efforts a
sense of purpose and meaning beyond our basic financial goals.

• If the business is meeting its projections by month nine, we will start

scouting for a second location and develop plans for the next Cafe. Our
five year goal is to have 3 Cafe in the Lahore city.

Statement of the Problem:

Lahore is a city of Colleges and Universities; there is huge potential of youth who
goes for entertainment every day in different places. There is a need of place
where they have variety of entertainment. So that we decided to introduce a
different style of entertainment Cafe named as Gorillaz Cafe as we need a
different thing to get establish nowadays.

Barket market is very busy place in town. There are many offices, colleges and
universities located near this market. So many employees come to their offices
and large number of students are living here in hostels, flats etc.

After our research in the form of questionnaire and personally interviews from
people in that area. We are able to find that most of the people especially
students have their food from outside such as restaurants. There is a high scope
of hostels, restaurants and cafes in this area. Another thing which we found that
students of this area also need some entertainment point.

Finally we conclude that we will open a cafe in barket market in which different
segments would introduced in the form of food, sheesha, catering etc.
As far as food is concern, our aim would be to provide quality food. Home
delivery service will also provided for free of cost. Office employees have not so
much time to come to restaurants for having meal, so free office delivery will be
an attraction for employees. Catering services will provide at low cost as
compared to marriage halls which are near the market.

Project Cost:
The cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 1.5 million, including Land
security and Interior designing, preliminary expenses and working capital.

Background information:

We are five group members and it is our first project. We all are student of BsBA
(Bachelor of Science in business administration). Usman Younas, H.Waqar,
Waqas Javed, Hassaan Mirza, and Zaryab Hassan.
H Waqar & Waqas have an experience of construction the cafe before and well
known about function of cafe and also have experience of cafe management.
They are also involved in sheesha business. We import sheesha from Dubai and
sale to different cafes in Lahore. We also had a business of purchasing and
resale of cars. Usman has an experience in dealing of hand made carpets
business.

Significant of the study:

In our research, we found that if we launch our café in the area of Barket
Market then it’s a great opportunity for us to generate desire revenue from
this business. Our café would be a fully entertainment point and this type of
café can fully met the need of that area.
So there will be a variety of segments. We work on differentiation strategy so
we can differentiate our service as compared to other cafes. We will fulfill the
needs of the people as well as earn maximum profit.

Scope and limitation of the study:

The Gorillaz Café will serve several customer groups. They are detailed as
follows:

• Students
Near Barkat market there are several colleges and universities including
CFE, SKANS, UMT, Superior College, Punjab University, and Himayat-e-
Islam. So our cafe covers the students of these institutes as our
customers. Our cafe will provide different sort of entertainment and
refreshment at low price.

• Couples
Our cafe will be an attractive place for the couples. Couples need a
privacy which will provide by our cafe.

• Local residents
Many local residents come to Barket Market to shop on the daily basis.
During the week those locals who have a day off, are elderly, or don’t
work for whatever reason will be our customers. Enjoying “Sheesha” out
on weekends is a local tradition, and dinner will be popular with hungry
shoppers.

Review of related literature:

Our group members visited some prominent Cafe owners, to get necessary
information regarding Cafe business. We interviewed them and get necessary
information. The response was generally encouraging a few owners also
discourage. During interviews some very interesting views come forward.
Such as an owner of cafe who was a illiterate person explained that no
business in better then the business related to atta and auto. From atta he
means any business related to food and auto means any business related to
vehicles it may be workshop, service station, auto dealer etc. because above
mentioned both businesses are relate to necessary of the life.
The main argument of the owners who discourage to start cafe business was
that it is a full time job. The man engaged in this business cannot give quality
time to his family members, relatives and friends.

Research Methodology:

In our research, we chose questioners method to find the opinion of people in

the area of Barket Market. From which we found that the scope of cafe is very
high and people really need this type of entertainment point. According to our
questioners 75% people are favor our idea to start new cafe in that area.
