The Erlang distribution is a continuous probability distribution used to model phenomena with Poisson arrivals such as the number of telephone calls arriving at a switchboard. It is defined by two parameters: the shape parameter k, which must be a non-negative integer, and the rate parameter λ, which is a non-negative real number. When k equals 1, the Erlang distribution simplifies to the exponential distribution. The Erlang distribution is a special case of the Gamma distribution where the shape parameter k is restricted to integer values.

What do you understand by Erlang Distribution?
The Erlang distribution is a continuous probability distribution with wide applicability
primarily due to its relation to the exponential and gamma distributions. The Erlang distribution was developed by A. K. Erlang to examine the number of telephone calls which might be made at the same time to the operators of the switching station. The distribution is a continuous distribution, which has a positive value for all real numbers greater than zero, and is given by two parameters; the shape k, which is a non-negative integer, and the rate , which is a non-negative real number. The distribution is sometimes defined using the inverse of the rate parameter, the scale . When the shape parameter k equals 1, the distribution simplifies to the exponential distribution. The Erlang distribution is a special case of the Gamma distribution where the shape parameter k is an integer. In the Gamma distribution, this parameter is not restricted to the integers. The probability density function of Erlang distribution is
What is the difference between Balking and Reneging Customer Behaviour? If a customer coming to join a queue leaves immediately without waiting because of the length of the queue, it is said to be balking. If a customer coming to join a queue leaves after waiting for sometime in the queue, it is said to reneging. In case of balking, the customer does not join the queue at all whereas in case of reneging the customer joins the queue and after sometime he leaves before getting the service because of his reluctance to wait.
