This document provides an overview of a slip and creep test rig for V-belt drives. It discusses the introduction and uses of belt drives, the types of belt drives, and the concepts of slip and creep that occur in belt drives. It also describes the assembly of the slip and creep test rig, the function of the dynamometer used to measure torque, and the advantages of using a V-belt drive system.

SLIP AND CREEP TEST RIG
FOR V-BELT DRIVE
1 Contents INTRODUCTION SELECTION OF BELT DRIVE TYPES OF BELT DRIVE CONCEPT OF SLIP & CREEP FUNCTION OF DYNAMOMETER ADVANTAGES
2 INTRODUCTION
The belt or ropes are used to transmit power from one shaft to another by means of pulleys which rotate at the same speed or at different speeds.
3 SELECTION OF BELT DRIVE Speed of the driving and driven shafts. Power to be transmitted. Positive drive requirements. Space available. Speed ratio. Centre distance between the driver and driven shafts. 4 TYPES OF BELT
Flat belt
V-belt
Circular belt 5 CONCEPT OF SLIP & CREEP WHAT IS SLIP ? Sometimes , the frictional grip between belt and pulley becomes insufficient , which may cause some forward motion of the driver without carrying the belt with it. This is called slip of the belt
VELOCITY RATIO:
( N2/ N1) = ( d1/d2) x ( 1- s/100) 6
WHAT IS CREEP OF BELT ? ( N2/N1) = (d1/d2) x { ( E + 2)/ ( E + 1)} When the belt passes from the slack side to the tight side a certain portion of the belt extends and it contracts again when the belt passes from the tight side to slack side. En pulley Due to these changes of length , there is a relative motion between the belt and the pulley surfaces. This relative motion is termed as creep.

8 FUNCTION OF DYNAMOMETER This type of dynamometer is very suitable for measuring the Torque 9 ADVANTAGES More power transmission.
Compact due to less distance between center of pulleys
