Contents
Specification Update for the Intel
Desktop Board
DX58SO Technical Product Specification (Order Number: E51290). It is intended for
hardware system manufacturers and software developers of applications, operating
systems, or tools. It will contain Specification Changes, Errata, Specification
Clarifications, and Documentation Changes.
For specification updates concerning the Intel processor that may apply to this desktop
board, refer to the Intel
Core
i7 Processor Specification Update (Order Number: 320836)
Unless otherwise noted in this document, it should be assumed that any processor
errata for a given stepping are applicable to the Altered Assembly (AA) revision(s)
associated with that stepping.
Refer to the Intel
X58 Express Chipset Specification Update (Order Number: 320839)
for specification updates concerning the X58 IOH Controller and that may apply to the
desktop board DX58SO. Unless otherwise noted in this document, it should be
assumed that any IOH errata for a given stepping are applicable to the Altered
Assembly (AA) revision(s) associated with that stepping.
Refer to the Intel
Desktop Board
DX58SO. Intel intends to fix some of the errata in a future revision of the desktop
board, and to account for the other outstanding issues through documentation or
specification changes as noted.
The following notations are used in the table:
Doc: Document change or update that will be implemented.
PlanFix: This erratum may be fixed in a future revision of the desktop board, driver, or BIOS.
Fixed: This erratum has been previously fixed.
NoFix: There are no plans to fix this erratum.
Shaded: This erratum is either new or modified from the previous version of the document.

Specification Changes
The Specification Changes listed in this section apply to the Intel
Desktop Board
DX58SO Technical Product Specification (Order Number E59290).
1. Added Note to Section 2.1 Memory Resources section.
NOTE
Due to limitations imposed by the original IBM PC-AT specification the total peripheral
option space is 128KB. The impact of this limitation is that it may not be possible to
use multiple add-in cards, which have legacy option-ROMs, in conjunction with the
DX58SOs on board devices due to the limited space available. Examples of these
cards are LAN, RAID, and graphics cards.
The symptom of over-crowded option ROM space is that some devices will not be
initialized and therefore will not function correctly, or not appear in the operating
system.
Intel Desktop Board DX58SO Specification Update 7
2. Update to Section 1.5 System Memory.
1.5 System Memory
The Desktop Board supports the following memory and interface:
Four 240-pin Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module
(DIMM) connectors with gold-plated contacts arranged in two channels
1600+/1333/1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM Memory Modules
Support for single- and dual-channel memory interleaving
Unbuffered, non-registered single- or double-sided DIMMs with a voltage rating of
1.65 V or less.
NOTE
Using a DIMM with a voltage rating higher than 1.65 V may damage the processor.
NOTE
DDR3 1600 or higher memory support on this desktop board requires compatible XMP
enabled memory or advanced knowledge of BIOS and manual memory tuning.
Individual results may vary.
3. Add additional information to Section 1.5 System Memory.
