Assignment Question BWB10103 PDF

This document outlines an assignment for a statistics course. Students are asked to collect 50 raw data points on a topic of their choosing from available sources. They must then (a) construct a grouped data set from the raw data, (b) create bar charts, pie charts, histograms and ogives to visualize the grouped data, (c) calculate measures of central tendency, dispersion and quartiles for both the grouped and ungrouped data, (d) analyze the data for outliers using theorems, (e) calculate measures of skewness and comment on distributions, and (f) create box plots with SPSS software and comment on distributions. Students must present their findings in Week 12 and submit a report.

STATISTICS & PROBABILITY 1 (BWB 1013) S2 2012/13

ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

You are needed to find 50 raw data on any topic. These secondary data can be obtained
from the source data that are readily available (magazine, book, newspaper etc.). You can
also generate primary data by handling your own experiment or observation. Based on
these data, answer the following questions;
(a) Based on knowledge gained from your class, construct a grouped data from the raw
data you get.
(b) Based on the data above, create a bar chart, pie chart, histogram and ogive (grouped
data).
(c) Find the mean, mode, median, standard deviation, Q1, Q3 for grouped and
ungrouped data.
(d) Using the Chebyshevs theorem and empirical rule, is there any outliers data for
your data set.
(e) Obtain the Pearsons coefficient of skewness and comment on the values obtained
for grouped and ungrouped data. What is your conclusion?
(f) Plot a box plot and comment the distribution of your data.
For (b), (c) and (f), you have to use and attach the output of SPSS software.

The presentation will be done on Week 12 and you have to submit a report after the
completion of your presentation.
