Stretch and Challenge Question
Tips:
Remember exam technique plan your answer, look at the marks available.
Write structured answers not waffle.
An optical mark reader is used to detect pencil lines
on a piece of paper by reflecting light onto the sheet; it
then interprets the marks and adds them up on a database.
An example of where it is used is in the lottery.
Optical character recognition, this device has
special software that can scan handwriting into text
form on a computer; the ability to scan depends on the
clarity of the hand writing. Reporters often use this to
process their notes onto a computer to make into a
report.
Magnetic ink character recognition is an individually code
that is special ink that can be recognised by a computer, it is
often used for checks so that a computer can recognise the
ink.
I personally thin k that a laser printer would be best for this
situation because printing is fast for large volumes and they can
handle very large print jobs, also the printer cartridges last for a
very long time and are cost effective; however they are quite
expensive to run. An inkjet printer has high quality printing and
is very light weight, however the output is slow the printing can
smudge and it is more oftenly used for printing images. Also I
wouldnt use a dot matrix printer because they are noisy and
very slow to run.
