I can graph linear functions and inequalities
expressed symbolically by using key features of
the graph.
Finding Epicenter Using a Linear Equation
I. Graphing using slope and intercept
GOAL: Graph a line!

Steps used:
1. Determine the slope and y-intercept of the equation.
2. Graph the y -intercept () on the y-axis.
3. Use your slope () to determine how to move in the y
and x direction from your y-intercept in order to reach
another point on your graph.
4. Connect your points!

Remember: Use rise over run from your y-intercept!
Lets practice!
O y = / x - 2

Lets practice!
O 2 3 = 12
A. Writing the equation of a line from a graph
1. The graph of a linear equation shows the
slope as well as the y-intercept.
2.We can use those two pieces of information to
write the equation of the line.
Given the slope and y-intercept, what form of the equation should we
use? Why??
Joe says that the equation of the
line shown is:
5x + 2y = 10.

Is he correct?
