Professional Inquiry Project Proposal

Starting a Drumline Ensemble

PIP Action Plan
What will you accomplish?
(Goal statement)

Research Question:
What methods can be utilized to develop the
percussive skills to be a drumline instructor?

I will create a website that contains links to various
resources (including video, rhythmic exercises, ect.) that
will assist students and educators in developing
rudimentary percussion skills (snare, bass, and tenor) as
well as fundamental drumline playing positions. This
website will also include administrative advice for
educators that are interested in starting a drumline
program at their school.
What does it look like when youve
accomplished your goal?
I.e., How will you know you have achieved
your goal?
What are the indicators of success or
progress? (Assessment)
The finished product will be a
weebly website that contains
administrative advice for music
educators regarding how to start
a drumline ensemble, as well as
video tutorials that will assist
educators and students in
developing the basic skills
required to play the three
fundamental instruments in a
drumline ensemble (snare, bass,
and tenor drums).
Timeline:
(By when?)

Dec. 3-7, 2014
Rationale:
Why is it important?
Creating a drumline ensemble is important because it
creates an avenue for music education that may spark the
interest of students that are not interested in a traditional
instrumental ensemble. In todays schools, the number of
students participating in music education is declining. In
my opinion, creating a drumline ensemble will result in
more musical opportunities within a school, which will
then in turn increase the overall number of students
participating in music education.
