ABSTRACT:
The endophytic actinomycetes can producing many antifungal compounds that can
suppress growth of pathogenic fungi. A total 30 actinomycetes strains were isolated from
Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Rameshwaram, Tiruchengode. They were screened for their
antifungal activity. Out of the 30 strains, 11 showed antifungal activity. Actinobacteria were
isolated by serial dilution and plating method on starch casein agar media. Total 20 species
were isolated on the bases of colony characteristics on starch casein agar and all the isolates
were primarily screened for antifungal activity of the test organisms Candida albicans and
Geotrichum candidum. In secondary screening (A7,A8,A23,C2,F3,F4) showed the maximum
zone of inhibition. Bioactive compound of the crude extractHexane 5:1(v/v) Ethyl acetate
1:1(v/v) are more inhibitory activity. Thin layer chromatography the solvent front with the
Rf value of 0.82 for F3 strains and 0.88 for F4 strains.
