-ING FORM

THE ING FORM


The ing form can be used like a
noun or like a verb.

EXAMPLES
Filming took place in Denmark and Portugal
NOUN
They are filming a new movie.
VERB
When we use a verb in -ing form as a noun, it
is usually a gerund:
Fishing is fun

GERUND
When we use a verb in -ing form as a verb ,
it is usually a present participle:
Anthony is fishing.

How we use gerunds?
Gerunds can be used as the subject of the
sentence.
Smoking costs a lot of money
SUBJECT
Gerunds can be used as the object of a
sentence
My favourite activity is reading detective stories.
OBJECT VERB
Gerunds can be used as the object of a
preposition
The police arrested him for speeding
