KINDS OF CONCEPT MAP

AFFINITY DIAGRAM- is a business tool used to organize ideas and data. It is

one of the Seven Management and Planning Tools. The affinity diagram
organizes ideas with following steps:
1. Record each idea on cards or notes.
2. Look for ideas that seem to be related.
3. Sort cards into groups until all cards have been used.

TREE DIAGRAM- is a graphic organizer used to list all possibilities of a
sequence of events in a systematic way.

PICTURE LANDSCAPE CONCEPT MAP- present information in a landscape
format.

MULTIDIMENSIONAL CONCEPT MAP- These describe the flow or state of
information or resources which are too complicated for a simple two-dimensional
map.

MANDALA CONCEPT MAP- Information is presented within a format of
interlocking geometric shapes. A "telescoping" factor creates compelling visual
effects which focus the attention and thought processes of the viewer.

FLOWCHART CONCEPT MAP- process or cycle can also be described in terms of
an outline, so long as the outline indicates the progression of steps either
forwards, backwards or looping.

SYSTEMS CONCEPT MAP- organizes information in a format which is similar
to a flowchart with the addition of 'INPUTS' and 'OUTPUTS'

SPIDER CONCEPT MAP- is organized by placing the central theme or unifying factor
in the center of the map. Outwardly radiating sub-themes surround the center of
the map.

FISHBONE DIAGRAM- is useful in brainstorming sessions to focus
conversation. After the group has brainstormed all the possible causes for a
problem, the facilitator helps the group to rate the potential causes according to
their level of importance and diagram a hierarchy. The design of the diagram
looks much like a skeleton of a fish. Fishbone diagrams are typically worked
right to left, with each large "bone" of the fish branching out to include smaller
bones containing more detail.

HIERARCHY CONCEPT MAP- presents information in a descending order of
importance. The most important information is placed on the top. Distinguishing
factors determine the placement of the information.
