Subjunctives

"Wish" is often used with the subjunctive because the meaning of wish is
related to something unreal.

Wish is used when the speaker wants reality to be different, to be exactly
opposite.

SUBJUNCTIVE WISH

Future




Example : a. I wish you would stop saying that.
b. We wish that you could come to the party tonight.
c. I wish I wouldnt have to work overtime tonight

Subject + Wish (that) + subject2 + would + V1
were + V-ing


Present



Example : a. We wish that you were old enough to come with us
b. They wish that they didnt have to go to class today.
c. I wish that she forgot that today is my birthday.

Past


Example : She wished that she had had more time last night

Subject + wished (that) + subject2 + had V3




Example : I wish that you had come here yesterday
