Specific Heat: Dindo Malonzo, Jamie Rosero, Jethro Jean Fajardo, Theo Victor Cavite

This document discusses an experiment to determine the specific heat of various substances and solutions. The experiment measures the mass of substances like rubbing alcohol and water, heats the water, mixes it with the substances in a calorimeter, and measures the final temperature. The results are analyzed to find that alcohol has a lower specific heat than water, requiring less energy to raise its temperature, while the other test solutions have a higher specific heat than water.

SPECIFIC HEAT

Dindo Malonzo, Jamie Rosero,

Jethro Jean Fajardo, Theo Victor Cavite
INTRODUCTION
Heat is the amount of energy transferred between two
bodies due to a difference in temperature.

This energy may be quantified using the equation:

Q = mc dT (1)

Gives the heat transferred by a body to another body of equal Q
m = mass of body
c = specific heat
dT = temperature difference between the hotter body
and the colder body.

INTRODUCTION
The specific heat of a body is the amount of
energy needed to raise the body's temperature
by one degree Celcius, per unit mass.

The experiment aims to determine the specific
heat of various solutions and substances.
METHODOLOGY
Mass of rubbing alcohol is measured.

Mass of water is measured.

Set aside to acquire room temperature

Water is heated.

Final Temperature is measured

Mix inside the Calorimeter

The final Temperature is measured.

Repeat for the other substances

DISCUSSION
Only Alcohol has a heat capacity less than water

All the other test Solutions have greater C than
water

CONCLUSION
Alcohol is volatile hence lower value of C, less
heat is required to raise to its temp by one
degree
