Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) warrants to the original purchaser of this SCEA
product that this software is free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of
ninety (90) days from the original date of purchase. SCEA agrees for a period of ninety (90) days
either repair or replace, at its option, the SCEA product. You must call 1-800-345-7669 to receive
instructions to obtain repair/replacement services.
This warranty shall not be applicable and shall be void if the defect in the SCEA product has

HANDLING YOUR PLAYSTATION
3 FORMAT DISC:
Do not bend it, crush it or submerge it in liquids.
Do not leave it in direct sunlight or near a radiator or other source of heat.
Be sure to take an occasional rest break during extended play.
Keep this disc clean. Always hold the disc by the edges and keep it in its protective case
when not in use. Clean the disc with a lint-free, soft, dry cloth, wiping in straight lines
from center to outer edge. Never use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

Saved data for PLAYSTATION
3 format software
3 format software is saved on the systems hard disk.

The data is displayed under Saved Data Utility in the Game menu.
Note: To use the controller, you must first register or pair the controller with the
PLAYSTATION
3 system and assign a number to the controller. For details, refer to the
instructions supplied with the system.
* The L3 and R3 buttons function when the sticks are pressed.
Starting a game: Before use, carefully read the instructions supplied with the PLAYSTATION
3
computer entertainment system. The documentation contains information on setting up and
using your system as well as important safety information.
Check that the MAIN POWER switch (located on the system rear) is turned on. Insert the
MotorStorm disc with the label facing up into the disc slot. Select the icon for the software
title under [Game] in the PLAYSTATION
3 systems home menu, and then press the sbutton.

Refer to this manual for information on using the software.
Quitting a game: During gameplay, press and hold down the PS button on the wireless
controller for at least 2 seconds. Then select Quit Game from the screen that is displayed.
To remove a disc, touch the eject button after quitting the game. Hint

Set up the PLAYSTATION3 system according to the instructions in its instruction
manual. At start-up, the power indicator light will glow red to indicate that the
PLAYSTATION3 system is in Standby Mode. Press the power button and the power
indicator light will turn green.
Insert the MotorStorm disc into the disc slot with the label side facing upwards.
MotorStorm will then begin loading. Do not insert or remove accessories once the
power is turned on.
The minimum amount of free space required to save MotorStorm data will vary
depending on the capacity and type of media storage device in use.
MotorStorm only supports the use of the SIXAXIS wireless controller.
Please refer to the PLAYSTATION3 system Instruction Manual for details about
setting up and recharging a SIXAXIS wireless controller.
USING MENU SCREENS
Press the 1, 2, 4or 3directional buttons to highlight an option, then press xto
confirm. To return to the previous menu screen, press c.

A short, cinematic introductory sequence will be displayed on start-up. Press xto
access the Main Menu.
This title uses an autosave feature. Game data is saved automatically at certain
points. Do not switch off the power when the HDD access indicator is flashing.
MAIN MENU
The options on the Main Menu are: Play, Online, Extras, Setup.
PLAY
Jump straight in by picking a ticket from those already unlocked. Press 4or 3to
scroll through the races to see which ones are accessible, and also the points
required to open up any that are locked. Choose a vehicle class and a livery, then get
ready to kick up a storm out in the wilds of Arizona.
ONLINE
Take the challenge online to test your skill and nerve against up to 11 other
real-life racers.
EXTRAS
Press 4or 3to scroll through the videos that are available for you to view and
press xto select one.
SETUP
Choose Setup to view and adjust a range of settings, including audio and
control options.

PLAYING ONLINE
Use of the online portion of this game is subject to your acceptance of the terms and
conditions under the User Agreement located within the game. A full copy of the User
Agreement is shown on page 30 of this manual or available online at
www.us.playstation.com/support/useragreements. Note: Requires broadband internet
service for online play. User responsible for all applicable internet fees.
Select Online from the Main Menu to race against others by joining or creating your
own game.
JOINING OR CREATING GAMES
A list of servers will be displayed highlighting the number of players. Select the server
you want to play on. The following options will be displayed: Create a Game,
Join a Game and Lobby Info.
Choose Join a Game to access a list of available game sessions and view the
game details.
To create a game, you must set up or specify a number of options, including game
name, select a track, vehicle filters, number of laps and ambience.
Vehicle filters decide the vehicle classes available for selection. As the game host, you
will not be able to allow every vehicle to be selected as each track has a defined list
of vehicles that can be chosen from.

Then the MotorStorm Festival rolls into town
THE FESTIVAL
The MotorStorm Festival is one of the greatest shows on Earth; a week of racing,
anarchy and raucous music attracting hundreds of thousands of revelers to the desert.
Its a race; its a party; what more could you want?
Play Mode is your opportunity to get right in the thick of things as a racer. It features a
series of events known as tickets, spread across four levels of difficulty.
Each level of difficulty contains a variety of race types. Initially only three tickets are
available; the rest are unlocked by earning respect points by winning gold, silver or
bronze medals.
The race type and vehicle class are fixed except for MotorStorm races on The
Grizzly. Finish in the top three in a race to progress to the next race and earn respect
in order to unlock subsequent tickets.
The tickets in Play Mode are raced in sequence. There will be one to four races per
ticket, most featuring different vehicle classes, some featuring only a single class,
while some unique races on the Grizzly track feature all seven vehicle classes.
Look out for special tickets, which are worth double respect points. These often
require different conditions to be met before they are unlocked, for example, obtaining

GAME LOBBY
The lobby is accessed after choosing to create or join a game. A list of all players
present in the lobby is displayed, including their current status. The host has control
over the lobby and chooses when the race will start, and which track and vehicle
types to use for the next race.
When the host starts the race, everyone in the lobby is taken to the vehicle select
screen to choose a vehicle class, body shell and livery. Only the vehicle classes that
have been selected by the host will be available, while the body shells and liveries will
be limited to those unlocked in Play Mode. Players have 30 seconds to choose their
vehicles before the race begins.
SCORING & RANKING
You can see stats for yourself and others in the lobby.
Your 'Fame' is a key stat to look out for - each player is given points (between zero
and ten) for every online race they compete in. The points received are directly based
upon completing the race successfully and the finishing position achieved.
There are nine different Fame rankings in total:

Use the left stick, press 4and 3, or tilt the SIXAXIS wireless controller to steer.
The amount of steering depends on vehicle speed, and how hard the left stick or
directional buttons are pressed. During jumps, you can sometimes change a vehicles
orientation while in the air.
Press dto accelerate and press ,to brake or go in reverse.
Different vehicles accelerate and brake at different rates. When a vehicle is stopped
or moving backwards, the brake function automatically doubles as reverse.
Press cto use the handbrake/rear brake (for MX Bikes/ATVs).
Apply a large braking force to the rear of the vehicle, locking the brakes and enabling
it to slide. For MX Bikes and ATVs, applying just the right amount of rear brake while
turning will push the vehicle into a controlled slide, giving you a sharper turning angle.
Press tto change view.
Drivers of buggies, rally cars, racing trucks, mudpluggers and big rigs can swap
between two in-game cameras: Front Cam and Chase Cam.
Press sto perform an action.
The action performed depends upon what is going on around you, for example, if you
are riding an MX Bike and another bike comes near, you will attack them. If there are
no competitors close by to attack, then a different action will be performed.
Press xfor a boost.
Boost increases a vehicles acceleration and top speed and will gradually replenish
over time. Activating a boost will cause the vehicles temperature to rise through
several phases cool, warm and hot before reaching critical mass, which means
that the vehicle is nearing breaking pointpush it too hard and the engine will
explode! The boost cannot be used immediately at the start of a race as it needs to
warm up first.
Use the right stick to look around.
Get a better idea of what is going on around you by panning left, right or back.

MotorStorm features seven different off-road vehicle classes, each with their own
strengths and weaknesses:
MX Bikes
Lightweight, agile and thin. MX Bikes have a good degree of
acceleration and average speed, but are vulnerable to damage.
ATVs
Similar to the MX Bike, but heavier and bulkier. ATVs are more
stable and durable, but not quite as agile.
Buggies
A good combination of speed and ability to cross rough terrain,
these vehicles are one or two seat space-frame contraptions,
custom-built to rugged specifications.
Rally Cars
Fast and relatively light, but limited by the types of terrain they
can cross. Anything too rough or boggy and these will suffer.
Made of lightweight materials, they are not very durable.
Racing Trucks
These modified pickup trucks are powerful, heavy machines.
Good ground clearance means they are capable of crossing
rough terrain, but do not have the acceleration of the lighter
vehicles.
Mudpluggers
The biggest of the cars, these imposing vehicles have big
wheels and heavy-duty suspension letting it deal with even the
worst terrain. Speed is their biggest weakness.
Big Rigs
Large, powerful and pretty much unstoppable. Low on speed
and agility, but who cares when you can just drive over anyone?

WRECKING YOUR RIDE
In MotorStorm only one thing is certain: vehicles are going to get wrecked.
However, after being in a crash that destroys your ride, you can rejoin the race with a
new vehicle. After a vehicle respawns it is invulnerable for a short period of time, and
starts on the track in a stationary position. Hit the gas to catch up and get back into
the race.
THE TRACKS
The Grizzly
The longest, most dangerous and diverse track, with multiple terrain types and many
set-piece areas for an epic and varied challenge.
Sidewinder Gulch
Set within a network of deep, dangerous canyons and narrow water-cut gorges, this
snaking track offers a thrilling, fast and wild ride.
Rockhopper
Racing on the razor's edge: a vertigo-inducing, roller-coaster ride across narrow
ridges and mushroom mesa-tops.
Rain God Mesa
A test of skill and bravery set in the bumpy, rough and unpredictable ground around
the higher-altitude areas of Monument Valley.
The Tenderizer
A bone-shaking vehicle-wrecker of a ride based around a mud-bottomed, boulder-
strewn valley, littered with rocks and junked vehicles.
Dust Devil
High speed, big-air, loose earth and hard rock come together under the baking desert
sun. Slippery and gritty surfaces and patches of vegetation challenge handling to the
max.
The Mudpool
Mud-filled gullies, sticky trenches and riverbeds. Every section is a dirty, slippery
challenge against the environment and the competition.
Coyote Rage
A nerve-wrecking track. Compact and concentrated, its full of unpredictability the
whole MotorStorm experience rammed into one intense race!
USING MULTIPLE ROUTES
Despite being man-made racing circuits, each track features a variety of different
routes providing advantages and disadvantages for the different vehicle classes. Long
sweeping bends will favor rally cars, while higher, narrower sections give the
advantage to MX Bikes and ATVs.
Due to the unpredictable nature of MotorStorm, some routes may not always be
available as no two laps are ever the same!

cases, SCEA may bring legal action against you or cooperate in any government or private legal action or investigation relating
to your conduct within the game.
8. HOTSPOT AND INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS. SCEA and its affiliated companies are not affiliated with any of the
Internet service providers (ISPs) or Hotspot Operators (collectively Service Providers) that you may connect to when you
wirelessly access the Internet and are not responsible for any damages or injury arising from or related to your use of these
services. When you access an ISP through a Hotspot you are providing information directly to the Service Provider and not to
SCEA. This information is collected by the Service Provider and is not shared with SCEA. SCEA does not control the Service

2. GRANT OF LICENSE. SCEA grants you a non-exclusive right to use this software for play on a PLAYSTATION3
computer entertainment system only. You may not (i) rent, lease or sublicense the software, (ii) modify, adapt, translate,
reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, (iii) attempt to create the source code from the object code for the
software, or (iv) download game content for any purpose other than game play. You have no proprietary rights in any game
content including game play statistics. SCEA may modify such content at any time for any reason.
3. AUTHENTICATION/SERVICE. SCEA may retrieve information about a users hardware and software for authentication,
copy protection, account blocking, system monitoring/diagnostics, rule enforcements, or game management and other
purposes. SCEA does not guarantee the continuous operation of the game servers and shall not be responsible for any delay
or failure of the game servers to perform. In the event of a systems incompatibility or inoperability, the sole liability of SCEI,
SCEA and their affiliates shall be limited to the repair or replacement of the users affected game software, console, or
peripherals at the option of SCEA. SCEI, SCEA and their affiliates shall not be liable for any delays, system failures,
authentication failures, or system outages, which may, from time to time, affect game play or access thereto.
4. NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY. You agree that you have no expectation of privacy or confidentiality in the personal
information you may intentionally or unintentionally disclose through login, game play and chat. You should avoid saying
anything personally identifying in chat. SCEA has no liability for any violation of this Agreement by you or by any other player.
5. ONLINE CONDUCT. When you play, you agree to be respectful of your fellow players and never to engage in any behavior
that would be abusive or offensive to other players, disruptive of the game experience, fraudulent or otherwise illegal. This
includes but is not limited to:
(a) Harassing or intimidating other players while chatting or playing this game online or using information obtained while
chatting or playing this game to harass or intimidate fellow players outside of the game;
(b) Using language, selecting user, character, clan or team names or creating any other content that is racially, ethnically or
religiously offensive, sexually abusive, obscene or defamatory;
(c) Selecting as a user, character, clan or team name any word, symbol or combination of words and symbols which is
identical to or substantially similar to any character, weapon, vehicle or other intellectual property element owned by SCEA
which appears in this game or any other SCEA game or a 3rd Party.
(d) Using content that is commercial in nature such as advertisements, solicitations and promotions for goods or services;
(e) Falsely representing that you are an employee of Sony Corporation, Sony Computer Entertainment America, or any other
affiliated or related company;
(f) Disrupting the normal flow of chat in game chat rooms;
(g) Making a false report of user abuse to SCEA Consumer Services;
(h) Violating any local, state or national law including but not limited to laws related to copyright, trademark, defamation,
invasion of privacy, identity theft, hacking and the distribution of counterfeit software;
(i) Using a cheat code, cheat device or any device that modifies the executable game code or data. For a detailed explanation
