Parents Notes on Home Learning Projects

Our home learning in Grade 3 will take the form of a mini-project to be completed every week over a 2 page spread in
Homework Journals. I have made suggestions for children to spread the work out through the week, but children should find
their own way of approaching this. Home learning comes out on Monday and should be returned on Friday so we can share
it with the class.

This week we have a sample project which is quite simple and should help children get into the routine. Starting next week,
these will relate more to our Unit of Inquiry and I hope they will get more complex and exciting as the year goes on.

The aim of these home learning projects is to encourage children to follow their own inquiry route by:

Discussing topics and central ideas with their family
Reading around the topic
Exploring the internet (check the blog for more suggested sites)
Asking their own questions (answers are not always necessary)
Creatively presenting their ideas and findings

The projects will be a mix of writing, reading, number work, art and some work on the computer/internet.

The following may give you some guidance.

Lets get it write . Write as much or as little as you like, but write all you know about the theme. Take notice of the Think About box.
Write it on the lined side of the journal.

The Big Question . Answer the question in your project in any way you like be creative.

Spelling City .. Mrs. Cabraal will keep this up to date. Children can log on and do the activities for words set for them and have a go
at some others also.

Read all about it! . This is some reading from Mr. Cabraal find more for yourself on www.raz-kids.com

Art Attack . Draw, paint, stick use colour, photos, sketches, diagrams cartoon, real, serious, funny just make an art attack.

Think of a number . This will be a combination of Mathletics and a special maths related question

E-Learning . This will be a link from our class blog to a cool learning site we will build these as we go through the year

Parent Question . You can put this in your project, or ask parents to put it in for you its their homework too.

Give it a go . Do this when you have time you can do it with your family or friends or by yourself.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Have fun with these projects and BE CREATIVE!.
No wrong answersbut dont make them boring

Remember Mrs. Cabraal loves to see a new way of doing things

Bring them in every Friday and show the class

We will eventually be posting this on the class blog to cut down on paper use in school
